Philadelphia 76ers player James Harden and Michigan State University shooting victim John Hao shared a special moment over the weekend. Harden kept his promise by inviting him to a game and also gave him a pair of autographed sneakers.

Hao is an international student from China. He was a victim in the horrific February shooting on the campus of Michigan State University and was paralyzed following the gunman’s attack.

Harden found out that Hao was a fan of Philadelphia 76ers, so he FaceTimed him and donated money and shoes. He also promised to have Hao and Hao’s parents to the game as guests. Here’s what went down.

  • The moment

After Harden scored 42 points in the game, he took off his sneakers, signed them and handed them to Hao. It was a super special and moving moment. “He brought me good vibes, good energy,” Harden said.

  • Another invite

Harden helped take Sunday’s game into overtime, and he and the 76ers won. Was Hao his lucky charm? Maybe. On social media, Harden asked Hao to return to Philadelphia for Game 6 of the playoff series.

“I don’t know what you got going or what your schedule is, but Game 6 you gotta be back here,”
