When the pandemic struck I no longer was out and about talking with you guys. It was during that time that I started using social media more to have “conversations” with you. Asking questions. Seeing where your head was at on certain topics.

Last week I asked you about your favorite American rock stars. Some of you didn’t understand the question, or didn’t read it fully because there were some non-American rockers brought up. That being said, I thought I’d make a post from some of the answers you gave me.

Oh, for the sake of this article, it’s only rockers who were actually born in the U.S.A..

Here’s some of the rockers you picked, in no particular order.

  • Elvis

I mean, he is the King of Rock And Roll. Motown B on Twitter said “He is ‘The King’”

Nathan Detroit piped in with “Elvis, Springsteen, the list probably gets murky after that… I’d suggest Michael Jackson… but then the whole idea of what is a rock star becomes the question.” Good point.

JS Rockford on Facebook agreed. As did Lisa Lakian, Chuck Keener, Lu Smith, among others.

Jason Horton picked Elvis and others, but said that others “pale in comparison to the cult of personality that is Elvis Aaron Presley.

  • david lee Roth

I mean, you can’t have a list like this without “Diamond” Dave. I’ve talked about this before, but there are some people who are made to be rock stars….he’s one of them!

Andrew Calvetti on Facebook listed Dave, along with others but did say “When you say ‘Greatest Rock Star’ – it has to be DLR”

Dale Groot on Twitter picked DLR, as did Super Ed, Kevin James and others.

  • Dave Grohl

Lots of you gave Dave Grohl the approved nod for great American rock star.

LuxStLou on Twitter, picked Dave along with Janice Krisniski & Eric for POTUS 2024.

Kelly Becker on FB said “Dave Grohl. He does it all… and he’s funny!” Hard to argue. Dave Haladye posted “Dave Grohl has been a part of so much and just keeps giving.” Sarah MacDonald was on the Dave train along with Restrummed and Kim Homke to name a few.  “Right now? Grohl and nobody is close.” said Joe Evengelista.

  • jon bon jovi

I was surprised by how many of you picked New Jersey’s native son.

Rez on Twitter picked JBJ, as did @Jarrett_33w, @LeventSoral, Adam Collin, @joviacdan and @deirdere27 for starters.

  • Jimi Hendrix, Steven Tyler and Paul Stanley

Zach Myers from Shinedown was nice enough to chime in with three picks, which also got a lot of love from you guys.

@Hysteria76 agreed with Zach on Steven Tyler. As did @CharlesJMem, @mjewett123, @mufctallica, @pennygirl72,

@LastDaysGuitar picked Jimi, along with @TheUltShuffle. A poster on FB said “Jimi Hendrix even with his limited years he is still the standard which most guitarist are judged”

@firfighter4U picked the KISS front man, as did @magnaben. Doug Frost on FB gave his vote to Paul.

  • james Hetfield

This is probably my pick. To me, James is the epitome of a rock star. Some of you agreed.

@Mark_Loves_mi commented on Twitter “Besides James Hetfield??” @radicsteven agreed, along with @GarryMcGorm, @hockeydj1 and @s40box.

Dave McMath on FB chimed in with “Gotta be Hetfield.” Gene Brown and John Patterson seconded this pick. Scott Mullen, Adam Walczak, David Johnson, Jose Rios, were others who picked the Metallica front man.

  • "the boss" bruce springsteen

I guess if you write a song called “Born in the U.S.A.” you should be on the list. You guys agreed.

On Twitter Bruce got votes from @DetroitSpartan2, @JayVick187, with @fake_DDickerson posting “Who could possibly be more American???” @Rockofdeth15 and @ladybug2u posted their approval for the Boss as well.

Bob Reidy, Sarah McDonald, along with William Wayburn on FB. William adding “Not a fan of his politics, but Springsteen…. The song “Born to Run” is the definition of American classic rock.” I agree.

  • bob seger

The Motor City legend got love from you guys for this question.

David Johnson, Jeff Mexicotte, Chris Flint, Billy Richter, Rivard Caroline, Bill Barr, Resa Wickings, and Chris Lowe were some of the people picking Seger on FB. Terry Minten posted “Gotta go with the man, Bob Seger.”

  • axl rose

Hard to deny Axl Rose from this list. When it comes to American rock stars, he’s right near the top, imo. As is his guitarist, Slash. I mean, anyone you could recognize by the silhouette is iconic.

Brian Marcella said “Axl Rose was the perfect “rock star.”” Steven Smithberger agrees, along with Kristy Mae, and others.
