Earlier this week I put out a list of my least favorite movies of 2023. Well, here's my list of the top movies of the year from my seat in the theater. Yes, I watch a lot of movies in the theater like in the olden days. LOL

That being said, I do watch a lot of movies at home on streaming services. I should probably wait until most of the new movies end up there, but patience isn't something I have a lot of when I want to see a film.

There were some movies I haven't seen yet as a write this. I did not get a chance to see It's A Wonderful Knife yet. I purposely didn't see The Machine because I like Bert Kreischer enough now, I don't want that to erode. The premise of that movie doesn't do much for me. Who knows? Maybe I'll watch it over the Christmas break.

Again, I watch a lot of movies from the horror genre, so that's what most of these are. I didn't include Oppenheimer, even though I thought it was decent. I did include another historic movie though. Another three plus hour film that was good.

Without further ado, let's get into the movies I liked from the past twelve months. I have to admit, nothing really blow me away. There were some good scary movies, but not much that really knocked my socks off.

As always, feel free to let me know what you think in an email at meltdown@wrif.com.

thanksgiving

Filmed in Canada, it takes place in the north eastern part of the states, and it all stems from Eli Roth's fake horror movie trailer from the Death Proof movies. I thought it was a fun watch with some grisly deaths, three of which that were predicted in the fake horror trailer.

renfield

Another movie that didn't take itself too seriously. Ironically, Jade liked this one and I can't get her near a horror movie with the promise of cat food for Miss Karl.

cocaine bear

Two words describe this movie: Dumb and Fun. There were a couple of decent jump scares too! Not great, but you know what you're getting when you sit down to watch it.

evil dead rise

This is a solid horror movie in my opinion! Maybe the best of the year for me. Just a creepy watch!

saw x

Yeah, another Saw movie. I get it. I lost a little bit of interest in this series but decided to give this one a try. I really liked it. I found myself squirming in my seat multiple times throughout.

the nun 2

I loved this one. If you can, watch it in a theatrical type of setting. It gets loud and bombastic....

insidious: the red door

I love this series and loved this movie. Classic!

napolean

I liked this movie a lot. Yes, it was long, but it moved right along. Plus, Joaquin Phoenix is so good in anything he's in.

Check out some movies I didn't like below.
