A few weeks back I looked at 10 songs that I thought were better than the originals. Since then, I’ve heard a few more that I thought I’d add to the list.

Ten Cover Songs I Think Are Better Than The Originals – Meltdown

  • Anthrax - Got The Time

Killer song, great bass lick from Frank Bello, mimicking the original. I saw them do this one live at the end of January at Soaring Eagle, so I parked it in my mind for this post. I remeber playing this one on the radio when it was brand new.

  • House Of Lords - Can't Find My Way Home

Another one I played the Hell out of on the radio when it came out in 1990. This was a band made up of guys that had some success in other bands, but it didn’t translate for them. As I sit here now, I can’t recall another song they did. Some might find this one a but sacrilege, but I stand by it. I like the HOL version more.

  • Seether - Careless Whisper

This is a no-brainer. The original is pop trash, in my opinion. Shaun and the Seether guys really rocked this one out!

  • Guns N Roses - Live And Let Die

Another one that might be considered sacrilege, but I love the GNR version slightly more. Obviously, it’s heavier, which goes a long way for me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a McCartney fan, but you have to give it up to the Guns boys for this one, especially live.

  • Bad Wolves - Zombie

I really never gave the original much thought, but it does have a great melody. The version from Bad Wolves not only really boosted their career, it was released right around the time Cranberries front woman’s untimely death.

  • Rob Zombie - American Band

Just a kick ass cover! Detroit’s own, John 5 slays the guitar licks in this heavier version of the original. Man, I love playing this one on the RIFF>
