This Friday we celebrate those who've sacrificed and served this great country. I thought I'd go through and pick some of my favorite songs with a military theme.

Metallica - One

This song is about a soldier who loses all his limbs in war. He can't speak, see, hear or move..he's just there with his thoughts. Lars has said it was inspired by the movie Johnny Got His Gun.

Metallica - Disposable Heroes

From the thrash metal classic Master Of Puppets, this might be one of my favorite songs from the band. Just eight minutes of metal perfection.

Three Doors Down - Citizen Soldier

I just saw these guys over the weekend in Battle Creek, at Firekeepers Casino. Huge supporters of the military, this is just one example of their devotion to those who serve.

Black Sabbath - War Pigs

Another classic from the metal legends. Here's a killer live version from 1970, when the guys were just starting out.

Five Finger Death Punch - Gone Away

The FFDP guys are also huge supporters of the military, and have written many songs about the men and women who serve. This is obviously a cover of the Offspring song, but I love how they reinvented it, especially with the video.

Alice In Chains - Rooster

What a great song! This one was written about Jerry cantrell's father. I recall interviewing him once, and he referred to his dad as the "Rooster".

Sammy Hagar - Remember The Heroes

The "Red Rocker" is another big military supporter. This is a beautiful tribute to those that serve.

Iron maiden - The Trooper

Every FourPlay At 4, you guys always slip in one Maiden song, no matter what the topic! I thought I had to do the same thing.

SLAYER - War Ensemble

I just have one word for this monster - SLAYER!!!!!

Toby Keith - American Soldier

Yes, I'm a rock guy, but I'm also partial to a well written song...especially when it comes to those who serve.

Pictures Of Metallica Rockin’ It Old School Last Night – Meltdown

Metallica rocked out old-school last night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla., in honor of Jonny and Marsha Zazula, the late founders of Megaforce Records. The first two Metallica albums were on their label, so the guys played just songs of those records for the fans. Here's what the setlist included.

“Creeping Death”
“Ride the Lightning”
“Motorbreath”
“No Remorse”
“Trapped Under Ice”
“The Call of Ktulu”
“Phantom Lord”
“Am I Evil?” (Diamond Head cover)
“Metal Militia”
“For Whom the Bell Tolls”
“Whiplash”
“Fade to Black”
“Seek & Destroy”

Encore
“Fight Fire With Fire”
“Blitzkrieg” (Blitzkrieg cover)
“Hit the Lights”

My friend, and fellow Struggle Within Michigan member, Cheska Sparks was there and sent me these amazing pictures. If she got any closer they'd ask her to join the band! Great job Cheska!!

Meltdown started on the mighty WRIF on the evening of Halloween, 1995. Technically, his first on-air shift was the morning of November 1st. Moving to the Motor City from Buffalo, N.Y., he has built a career and family. Over his almost three-decade stint at RIFF, he's had the privilege to work with some of the biggest personalities in Detroit radio history. He boasts of being just the second-afternoon drive jock in the station's illustrious 53-year history. Along with his love for rock music and attending concerts, he's also an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast and hockey player. He plays year-round and manages to squeeze in a few charity games throughout the year. Meltdown writes about the Detroit Red Wings, rock music, and Detroit concert venues.
