Yes, my cousin was the incredible Ed “The Sheik” Farhat, a man of true pro wrestling royalty. I’m super proud that he was my cousin. The Sheik played a major part in shaping what we enjoy as pro wrestling today. He was one of the most feared heels of all time- if not the most.

My mom has some really cool stories about The Sheik. She was a bit younger than him, but old enough that they kind of grew up in the same generation together and saw each other a lot. The Sheik passed away on Jan. 18, 2003, so it’s been more than 20 years since we’ve lost him.

Check out some really cool classic video of The Sheik, often referred to as “The Original Sheik,” below. Such an incredible wrestler and personality!

More vintage footage of The Sheik. This rare footage featuring the original Sheik out of gimmick comes from the Flint, Michigan area on Oct. 31st, 1981!”

This is an awesome interview with The Sheik’s nephew, Sabu, who is also my cousin. They talk about The Original Sheik and how he inspired Sabu to follow in his footsteps. It’s awesome to have two major wrestlers in the family.
