The first game console was the Magnavox Odyssey, and the first arcade game was Pong and Computer Space. Eventually the success of several video games led to their crossover in the movie industry.
These days as games have become more and more complex, the number of games has grown to epic proportions. Some genres include Action games, adventure, RPGs (role playing games) Sports, first person shooters, survival and many more. With so many genres to choose from these days, this opens the door for several compelling plots to develop within said games. Some of the greatest storylines in video games come from RPG games.

RPGs (Role playing games)
RPGs are games that allow the player to play “the role” of a character who’s game experience can be completely impacted by the choices the player makes throughout. The player can join factions, kill or save certain characters, and choose to befriend or turn against certain characters within the game. All of these decisions have the ability to impact the outcome of storylines and the overall game itself.
These games are designed to be the most immersive of all video games. Examples of this include Diablo, Baldur’s Gate, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and World of Warcraft. The gaming industry is a multi-billion-dollar enterprise. But RPGs aren't the only captivating game genre out there. Adventure games also are widely popular.
Adventure Games
Adventure games are designed to keep the player invested and completely involved in the events of the game. From the moment you put the game down, you cannot wait to pick up the controller and continue your adventurous journey. These types of game also typically involve a structured reward and achievement system.

A sense of accomplishments coupled with exploring amazing words and storylines make adventure games one of the best genres. Some examples of great adventure games include God of War Ragnarök, Life is Strange, Batman Arkham Asylum, and Red Dead Redemption II. Another type of video game worth talking about are platformers.
Platformers
Platformers are an age-old genre that only runs left to right or up and down. They don't always have the most visually spectacular graphics or scenery. What platformers lack in graphic capabilities, they make up for in challenging levels and addicting puzzles. Some of the greatest examples of the platformer genre include the original Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bro's and Sonic the Hedgehog.
Video Games and The Movies
Sometimes games miss the mark, with so many games being created every day. They statistically cannot all be winners. Much like movies video games can fail for a variety of reasons. Some games promise too much in their initial teaser trailers. Others simply fall short in what they thought would be a dynamic experience. Now days, some video games even fail because they incorporate a "pay to win" aspect to the multiplayer experience.

Assassins Creed
As a fan of the Assassins Creed video game franchise, this movie disappointed me. Michael Fassbender, while an interesting choice given the franchise origins, is odd. Yet Fassbender as the lead isn't a problem; it's the overall story and lack of being able to interest any fans. True Assassin's Creed fans thought it was not very interesting and lacked creativity or any real energy. This is why this film was a massive flop and why no sequel is coming anytime soon.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
Mortal Kombat is tough to make into a seriously good movie. While I have encountered people who don't mind the film, not many would objectively call it a "good movie." It's just a video game that doesn't work as a blockbuster film. They should turn this into a TV series, but that's just me. It's just too niche to be a successful movie.
Street Fighter (1994)
The Street Fighter movie was really bad. Again, perhaps it never should have been attempted. But alas, it was, and it was not a great story that everyone wanted to see.
Super Mario Bros (1993)
Okay, I don't need to go into details as to why this one was bad. Just watch the trailer, and your facial expression will say it all. It has somehow become a weird cult classic, but nobody ever asked for live-action Mario. After this came out, everyone will make sure it never happens again.
Doom (2005)
Doom did not suffer because of the acting performances or cast. It failed because it was doomed. Doom thrives as a game and really just failed because the game's overall premise is super simple and not too in-depth. The movie could not effectively expand upon that.
Monster Hunter
This is the most upsetting for me, I love the Monster Hunter video game universe. And I love Milla Jovovich. I was hoping to see some tribal villages on their quest to defend the land from some superb new monster in the movie. Instead, we saw a childish version of watching machine guns fire at armored T-rexes. The film lacked logic and ingenuity and was not fun to watch. I hope they don't give up as the Monster Hunter universe has so much to work with. But sadly, I think this movie crushed those dreams. By the way, it was not Milla Jovovich's fault!
Far Cry (2008)
Most of the video game world either forgot or never knew this movie existed. That is exactly how the makers of the movie want it to stay. It was bad, like really bad. Let's keep it buried in the past for now. The games are great though!
