Godzilla X Kong the New Empire was a smashing success story in 2024. The fifth film in the Monsterverse was one of the highest-grossing films of the calendar year. The movie made over $571 million, which placed it as the eighth highest-grossing film of 2024. The sixth film has already been confirmed and will be released in March 2027.
Many Godzilla fans wonder what creatures we may see in the upcoming film. To this point, we’ve seen some incredible titans. Ever since the first Godzilla movie in 1954, the G-Man has faced off against some awesome monsters. In the Monsterverse movies made by Legendary, they refer to every on-screen monster as a “Titan.”

A lecture on Japanese monster movies
Godzilla defeats some of his most challenging foes in the five films in the most recent installment of the franchise. Over its 71-year history, we’ve been blessed with 38 movies with many different Kaiju that have fought our favorite Atomic Breathing Lizard.
Godzilla and His Biggest Rivals
“King Ghidorah” is One of G-man's most iconic and influential Kaiju opponents. Ghidorah is one alien monster who always gives the G-man a run for his money. Most recently, he appeared in King of the Monsters in 2019.
Known for being the greatest rival in the franchise, Ghidorah has been featured in 11 films in total. It’s highly unlikely they would feature Ghidorah again in this upcoming film, as he has already been annihilated.

YOKOSUKA, KURIHAMA, KANAGAWA-KEN, JAPAN - 2017/07/09:
Biollante
Another incredibly powerful and very unique Kaiju that Godzilla has faced is Biollante. Biollante has a bizarre and downright sad origin story. A Japanese scientist mixed DNA with his deceased daughter, Godzilla, and plant cells.
This created a horrible and mysterious monster that badly wounded our favorite atomic lizard before she was ultimately defeated by him. While Biollante has only appeared in 1 film, I wouldn’t expect to see her soon. It doesn’t seem like the direction the Monsterverse is trying to move in.

Anguirus
Another epic Kaiju that fans everywhere have longed for the return of is Anguirus. Having been featured in 10 films over the years, Anguirus was once an enemy of Godzilla. Most of the time, Anguirus is the G-man’s best ally.
He has yet to be featured in the Monsterverse films, and after Scar King and Shimo in A New Empire, it seems like too much of a step back for Anguirus to be an enemy in any new installments. However, he very possibly could appear as an ally.
What's next in the Monsterverse
After Godzilla and King Kong teamed up once again to defeat an opponent in The New Empire, the Monsterverse is undoubtedly going to get bigger. Scar King mind controlling Shimo and threatening the entire world and Hollow Earth was a pretty insane threat as it is.

There are only so many other Titans that could cause G-man and King Kong problems and we’ll certainly see something amazing in 2027. The only thing I wonder is if we’ll see the return of an iconic hero, villain, or a brand-new Kaiju altogether. Find out which three monsters would be the most likely to make an appearance in the newest Godzilla movie set to release in 2027!
Destoroyah
One of the only monsters that brought down the mighty Godzilla. While it may not be accurate to say Destoroyah killed Godzilla, he definitely led to his demise. Destoroyah is the ultimate Godzilla opponent and one that could certainly be powerful enough to take on both Godzilla and Kong in the Monsterverse. Many Godzilla fans are calling for it; we'll see if Legendary can make it happen.
SpaceGodzilla
Yet another massive opponent in the Godzilla universe. Also, he was one of the few opponents who gave the G-man a run for his money. Space Godzilla is made of anti-Godzilla components, is just as strong, and can fly quickly. Space Godzilla would make for an excellent enemy in the new Godzilla film as he would not have difficulty dealing with Kong at all. Making this an interesting mostly 1 on 1 encounter for Godzilla.
Bagan
The most powerful Godzilla opponent ever made, he has yet to be featured in a movie though. Bagan has only ever been featured in the 1993 Godzilla game "Super Godzilla". Bagan is a dragon-like Kaiju with unreal power. If Bagan is in the movie, it will surely be fantastic. It's certainly a longshot, but this would make for an absolutely incredible enemy to watch on the big screen with modern graphics and CGI technology.
