I asked the simple question on my Facebook and Twitter (@MeltdownWRIF) What band would you go back in time to see with the original members? Man, did you guys respond!
Here’s a list of bands that were mentioned several times, in no particular order.

  • the beatles

Kind of a no-brainer, right? This would probably be my pick too, but I’d want to see them tour in the post Rubber Soul era, which they didn’t.

  • pantera

Another one that’s pretty easy, especially for anyone under 35/40 years old. There’s a whole generation of metal fans that never got to see the Abbott brothers in Pantera. I was lucky enough to see them several times. I even became friends with Vinnie Paul. He was a great dude!

  • Queen

After the death of Freddie Mercury in 1991, it would be decades until Queen “reformed” with Adam Lambert at the helm. This band got a lot of responses. By the way, the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody is fantastic.

  • led zeppelin

I mean, who wouldn’t want to go back and see Zeppelin? I have friends who saw them and it makes me jealous. The death of John Bonham in 1980 pretty much put an end to this massive rock band.

  • Lynyrd skynyrd

Another band that came to mind when I thought of this question. After their plane crash in 1977, the band carried on, but lots of southern rock fans never got to see the full outfit.

  • the doors

Lots of people also posted that The Doors was a band they’d like to see in its original form. Ian Astbury went out with the guys several years ago, but it’s Jim Morrison everyone wants to see.

  • pink floyd

Will the band ever get back together? Doubtful. I do know one thing, the original never will. “Syd” Barrett died in 2006 and Richard Wright passed in 2008.

  • alice in chains

With two of the original members gone, Layne Staley and Mike Starr, people who saw the beginning of A.I.C. were lucky. I saw them for the first time opening the shows on the Clash of the Titans tour with Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer. Such a great band!

  • metallica

With the untimely death of Cliff Burton, the original (to a certain extent) died on that day in 1986 in Sweden. Yes, I know Dave Mustaine and Ron McGovney were in the band. I don’t know, maybe some of you said Metallica because of Dave? Still, hard to argue the impact those Cliff albums had on metal.

  • AC/DC

The thunder from down under got a lot of mentions. Once again, the original band died with Bon Scott in 1980. What came next with Brian Johnson was worldwide rock domination for decades to come.

  • KISS

Who knows, as the KISS career comes to a close (maybe) might we see Ace and Peter join Paul and Gene on stage? I’d like to think so, but I’m not holding my breath. At least some of us got to see the complete band in June of 1996.

  • Queensryche

Here’s another band I wish would reunite and hit the road. I was lucky enough to see the Empire tour when they did Operation Mindcrime from start to finish. To this day one of the most amazing concerts I’ve ever seen.
