An article came out the other day about cover songs, and ones that aren’t well liked. I thought I’d ask you guys what some of you least favorites are. Man, you guys didn’t hold back.

One song in particular seemed to cause a lot of controversary one way or the other. We’ll get into that later.

  • Pearl Jam - Last Kiss

I didn’t think I’d see this one come up, but here we are. Mike Kosokowski on Facebook called it “THE worst cover song ever.” Tracy Boucher added “Don’t really care for the original either, but their cover is just bad.”

  • Faith No More - War Pigs

Tim Morley gave us this one. “Just flat out terrible. The song starts out meh and goes down hill from there; especially near the middle to end of the song. It’s like the song is too long for Mike Patton and he just gives up singing.”

  • Limp Bizkit - Behind Blue Eyes

This one got a few votes as well. @dieselonradio on Twitter said “Swapping the killer tempo change for a speak and spell of your own band name is awful.” Jeff Randell on Facebook agreed. “WTF is up with the speak and say?” @cmuszy on Twitter said this “Did it for a movie and Halle Berry. Fred Durst can’t sing, he raps.”

  • Tori Amos - Raining Blood

This seems to be a cover no one asked for. I’ll admit that I never heard this, but after C.J. Williamson made me aware of it, I had to give it a listen. He said “Kinda speaks for itself haha..” Yes, it does.

  • Five Finger Death Punch - Gone Away

Ok, here’s a band that a lot of you picked several different covers for. Funny thing about this one is that I asked Noodles and Dexter from the Offspring about this once, and Noodles responded that he wanted to cover their cover of his song because they added a guitar solo. LOL

Here’s what you guys said. Diablo25.8 on Twitter said “I like the band there’s songs you just can’t cover.” Bert Bowman on Facebook piped in “I’m too much a fan of The Offspring and don’t really care for 5FDP.”

Personally, I like their cover and like the video more. This is also my favorite Offspring song. So well written and preformed.

  • Pat Boone - No More Mr. Nice Guy

Yes, remember this mess? Pat Boone went metal. He should’ve stayed in his lane. Andy Anspach on Twitter reminded me of this one. “This entire album. What a train wreck.” Pretty much sums it up.

  • Ozzy Osbourne - Staying Alive

I mean,…why?? Dave Black reminded me of this disaster. “Somewhat amusing but not good at all.” I’ll let you decide.

  • Twisted Sister - Leader Of The Pack

Yeah, I always thought this one was a bit strange, too. Jason Wright on Facebook had this to say about this cover “Admittedly Dee Snider’s voice has always been grating to me but for him to try singing in that register and the fact they were an 80’s rock band covering what’s essentially a do-wop style song was just abominable. Horrible.” Hard to argue.

    Check out this video!

  • Puddle Of Mudd - About A Girl

While they didn’t record this and put it out, I’ll still include it. For a guy so heavily influenced by Nirvana, and then totally butcher this one live, I don’t even know what to say…so I won’t. Jeffery Toff on Facebook said “Absolutely Horrible” Mike Lingris on Twitter said it’s “probably the worst cover of all time and I don’t think I need to explain it. It should explain itself.”

  • Lenny Kravitz - American Woman

This one surprised me a little bit. On Facebook, Jessica Rice said the song is a “….dull, half hearted remake has just about ruined the original for me too.” Ben from Canada on Twitter said of this cover “It is a dramatic departure from the original. It’s not that I believe covers should be identical to be considered awesome, but the sprit of the original should be maintained. To this day I still change the status if it comes on.” Mike Kline, also on Twitter added “Such a watered down version. Lost the intensity of the original.”

  • Metallica - Turn The Page

This one got a lot of votes from people for their least liked cover song. Here’s a sampling of what you guys said.

The Bar Pilots on Twitter “James doesn’t sound inspired or even interested in the song. The whole arrangement holds little drama or energy.”

Janine on Twitter “Turn The Page, Metallica. I know some won’t be happy with that pick but that song belongs to Bob Seger and his experience of being on the road. No one else should attempt to replicate another man’s path. I can only listen to Seger’s version and see it.”

Justin on Twitter “James is not a “singer”.”

Over on Facebook Jen Holloway said “It’s not horrible but it’s not Bob.”

Jim “Chibs” Palmer “Weird reason…I like the song but the original video was a terrible mistake to that song.”

Todd White “It really is just awful.”

Carly Johnson “I’m not a fan of James’ voice…never have been. I love Bob Seger. That simple. Lol”
