Riffs of Summer

It was undoubtedly another fantastic week of the 101 Riffs Of Summer on Detroit's 101 WRIF. This week, we featured some of the most iconic "riffs" of all-time...and some of my personal favorites, as well.

This week, we featured epic riffs from rock greats like White Stripes and Rise Against, along with several other classic jams. Make sure to listen Monday through Friday at 2pm for the daily "Riff Of Summer!" Plus, you'll get two "riffs" on Two-Fer Tuesdays doubling up on some of your favorite WRIF bands.

If you missed any of the "Riffs" this week, check out the playlist below. Then, continue reading to hear about an awesome contest with a rocking Grand Prize!

Great White - "Once Bitten, Twice Shy"

The band's popular Ian Hunter cover, which was featured on their fourth studio album, ...Twice Shy.

Great White - "Rock Me"

Two-fer Tuesday! So that's twice the Great White. The first single off the band's third studio album, Once Bitten, in 1987.

Wednesday, July 26th

Cake - "Short Skirt/Long Jacket"

The first single from their 2001 album, Comfort Eagle. The music video for this track was also very popular, thanks to MTV.

Thursday, July 27th

Rise Against - "Prayer of the Refugee"

Off their fourth studio album The Sufferer & the Witness in 2006. It was released as the second single for the album.

Friday, July 29th

White Stripes - "Ball and Biscuit"

It's hard to talk about epic riffs and not mention "Ball and Biscuit." The song was featured on the band's 2003 album, Elephant. If it sounds familiar, the song was also played at the beginning of the movie "The Social Network."

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
