There's been a crazy new invention in the tech world--a flying umbrella that you don't have to hold. Welcome to 2026!

This is a pretty rad piece of new tech. Does your arm ever get sore when you're holding up an umbrella? I can relate. Now, you don't have to worry about that anymore thanks to the new flying umbrella. It hovers above you so there's no hands necessary. Check out a video showing off the new tech shared by I Build Stuff on YouTube below.

New Tech: Flying Umbrella You Don't Have To Hold

The flying umbrella was invented by YouTuber John Xu. According to New Atlas, John first built a drone-powered umbrella back in 2024 but it had to be flown by a handheld controller so it wasn't exactly hands-free. Sounds like his audience really let him hear about their complaints.

So, he re-designed it to make it autonomous. Now, people seem to have a lot negative things to say about it. Read more and see how he made it shared by New Atlas here.

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
