Counterfeit cash has struck Oakland County, Michigan. Police units now track a string of cases where fake bills keep turning up in shops.

Reports flood in from Highland Township to the Sheriff's Office. Meanwhile, Milford's police force tackles matching cases in their district. These con artists buy cheap items with phony hundreds, pocketing genuine cash as change.

"We strongly encourage all businesses and employees to be cautious when handling large denomination bills, particularly $100 notes," the Highland Township Supervisor's office said in a statement, according to CBS Detroit.

Small shops take the biggest hit from this scam. Each fake transaction wipes out their stock and drains their cash drawer. The ripple effect hurts the whole community.

Law enforcement wants extra eyes on incoming cash. Staff must check bills with care. The Highland Township office asks workers to keep any odd-looking money - if they can do it without risk - and call police fast.

The hunt for these scammers stretches across both zones. Oakland County deputies and Milford officers keep searching, but the culprits stay one step ahead.
