The city's eighth Halloween in the D starts soon. Running across 3 days from October 25 to November 8, 2025, this year adds street decorating to its mix of events.
"When we started Halloween in the D in 2018, we knew it would be well-received," Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said. "Now it has grown into a cherished tradition, providing fun for thousands of children in a family-friendly and safe environment."
Since its start, the program has passed out over a million candy pieces. Donations hit $104,000. More than 30,000 people showed up, with 700 locals pitching in to help.
This year brings a fresh twist. Streets can now compete for top prizes by putting up spooky displays. Block clubs and neighbors can work together to win.
On October 25, Palmer Park transforms. From 5 to 10 p.m. at 910 Merrill Place, visitors will find zombies lurking on trails, rides that thrill, scary dinosaurs, and trucks serving tasty bites.
Halloween night brings treats to car trunks. Police will set up at 11 spots across Detroit, while fire stations open their doors at 10 places on October 31.
Kids can pick from 14 recreation spots for more fun. Each place offers its own mix - some with haunted rooms, others with games, art stations, face paint, and music playing.
The big finish comes November 8. Williams Park hosts Fall Fest from 1 to 5 p.m. Kids zip on lines through trees, shoot paintballs, pet farm friends, and ride carnival attractions.
The city still needs more hands and funds. Big names like Michigan Recreational Construction Inc., Rocket Companies, and Major Contracting lead the support for 2025. DTE Energy joins Blue Cross Blue Shield among eight other backers helping make it happen.
