Two video game spots opened at McNamara Terminal this September. Players can now use Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and old-school gaming stations while waiting for flights.

"We've basically got an offering for everyone, whether you're an avid gamer who maybe is coming to stream at the location, or whether you're just doing a nostalgic bit of gaming," said Emma Walbridge, Gameway co-founder, according to Detroit Free Press.

The main site sits by gate A66, complete with a drink and snack bar. A smaller space runs near A15. Both stay open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Players can access their own gaming accounts to continue saved games. Popular titles include Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Mario Kart. A quick 30-minute session costs $17.99, while an hour runs $27.99. All-day gaming sets you back $45.99.

Workers track departure times to keep players on schedule. "If you told me, 'Hey, I've got like 40 minutes before my flight,' I'm going to sell you the half an hour package," Walbridge said, per The Detroit News.

The idea struck in 2017, when the Walbridges realized airports needed amenities that would help bored travelers to pass the time. Dallas-Fort Worth got the first spot in 2018. Detroit marks its tenth U.S. location.

Detroit manager J. Hopcroft sees spikes when flights run late. "When planes get delayed, this place fills up fast - more than I expected at this spot," he said.

These gaming zones join new food spots like 7greens, Wahlburgers, and Born in Detroit Kitchen + Bar as McNamara Terminal adds more things for waiting passengers to do.
