A Connecticut town has its eyes on setting a new world record for the largest pizza party. That's going to have to be a lot of pizza.

Who doesn't love a pizza party? What's not to love? Even mediocre pizza ends up being pretty good! Despite it often being tasty no matter what, everyone does have their personal preference when it comes to a slice of pizza. Some love a large New York slice. Others will swear by the Chicago-style pizza or the Detroit-style deep dish (my personal favorite, for the record). It often goes forgotten that the state of Connecticut has some of the best pizza in the country. It's even earned the nickname "Pizza Capital Of The U.S.!" That has to mean something! Now, New Haven, Connecticut, a town already famous for its pizza (have you ever tried New Haven-style apizza?), is going to try to set a new world record for the largest pizza party. Will they be able to pull it off? They're going to need a lot of dough!

According to NBC Connecticut, New Haven will try to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest pizza party, a record previously set by the Pizza World Champions in Tulsa, Oklahoma in January of 2023. Now, Connecticut's 3rd most populated city is looking to get its name into the record books. With its history and tradition in pizza, it's only fitting that New Haven hosts the world's largest pizza party. Known pizza-lover Dave Portnoy has previously declared New Haven pizza as the best in the world and he might be the most trusted source when it comes to pizzas. He's certainly tried enough to be considered an expert on the subject.

The previous record set in Tulsa had 3,357 participants and now New Haven is hoping to have more than 5,000 people in its record-breaking attempt. That's a lot of people and they're going to need a lot of pie with that many mouths to feed. The event is currently scheduled for Friday, September 12th from 4-7pm.

If you haven't tried the famous New Haven apizza before this could be your chance! Liane Page with Big Green Truck Pizza tells NBC Connecticut, "No one is going to really know what it's about until they come here and try it." Big Green Truck is famous for being at the front of the Pizza Truck revolution and they'll be the ones responsible for handling the pies for the event while the city handles the logistics, per NBC Connecticut.

They seem confident that they're going to be able to pull it off. Due to it being an official and legitimate record, they will have to follow a specific set of rules so roughly 400 people at a time will be eating the pizza. What are they expecting? They estimate that they will need to hand out more than 10,000 slices in order to break the record. People in New Haven better bring their appetite!

It's going to cost $15 to participate in the record attempt and that money comes with a ticket into the event and 2 slices of pizza to be eaten during the attempt along with a drink and water. Not bad for $15! Think you might make a trip to New Haven to try to be a part of something special?

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
