Food & Wine's annual Global Tastemakers Awards has named Detroit among the best places in the United States for pastries.
In an announcement on Wednesday, April 2, shared with the Patch of Detroit, Food & Wine recognized winners across multiple categories that “define American dining in 2025.” Detroit ranked as the 10th-best city in the nation for pastries.
The magazine called attention to Sister Pie, where homemade dough stars in the bakery's seasonal pies, such as honey lemon meringue, blueberry plum balsamic, and salted maple.
"The West Village neighborhood gem is among a host of bakeshops that have made Motor City a haven for pastry lovers," Food & Wine editors stated.
Food & Wine also highlighted several beloved Detroit pastry shops, including Avalon International Breads, Warda Patisserie, and New Palace Bakery, best known for its famous Polish paczki.
According to Food & Wine, the Global Tastemakers Awards help visitors discover great places for exceptional food and beverages as they travel around the United States and internationally.
To develop the list of the best food and beverage experiences for travelers, Food & Wine surveyed more than 400 chefs, food and travel writers, leading travel authorities, and wine professionals worldwide. Food & Wine's Global Advisory Board compiles the results and ranks the top nominees in multiple food and beverage categories.
