I finally got around to seeing the latest horror movie, Companion. I go see a lot of horror movies, so I've seen the trailer many times. I was hoping they didn't give too much away. Some would refer to this as more of a science fiction thriller, and I suppose that works.

Companion

The movie stars Jack Quiad (The Boys) as Josh and Sophia Thatcher as Iris. On a side note, this movie uses the Goo Goo Dolls classic "Iris", as did the latest Deadpool movie. Every time I think about the "mailbox" money those guys must get for that.

Anyways, back to the movie. It's from the creators of Barbarian, which I liked, so I had high hopes for this one too. All in all, it didn't disappoint. It's not a horror movie in the ways of jump scares or anything like that, but the movie does give you an anxious feeling in places. From chase scenes through the woods to characters trying to escape.

Josh and Iris take a mini-vacation at their friend Kat's boyfriend, Sergey's place. A rich, older guy who has a remote home 17 miles from anything. Once there, things escalate when Sergey makes moves toward Iris on a beach on his property the morning after partying all night. This does not go well for the entrepreneur.

From there, you learn more about Iris. She's not what she appears. This is when the real story begins, and missing pieces start to get put into place. As it turns out, Iris isn't the only one at the weekend getaway who isn't who they seem.

While trying to make a getaway, Iris runs into many roadblocks, including an unsuspecting police officer. Let's just say this day was his end of duty, leading to a reunion with Josh, and he's not happy.

Josh torments Iris and then finds out that what he's done to her can be unearthed.

The movie starts with a spoiler of sorts when Iris talks of the two best days of her life, which play out on the screen. You see both days in full color. However, one event never happened. She's taken aback by that betrayal. This betrayal is what fuels Iris.

As I watched this movie, I fought with how I would do a spoiler-free review. I hope I wetted your whistle without giving too much away. Believe me, it's harder than I thought it was going to be.

Overall, I enjoyed this film and give it a 3 1/5 out of 5. It's worth a watch.
