Lzzy Hale Reflects on Fronting Skid Row
Lzzy Hale fronted Skid Row for a handful of shows in 2024. Her powerful vocals were well-received by fans and critics alike.
Speaking with Metal Hammer, Hale detailed her Skid Row experience and noted that she was nervous for the first show but had shaken off the nerves in time for the second show. However, she said that it was the third show where she felt comfortable enough to take “some liberties” with how she sang Skid Row’s songs.
Particularly, she talked about “Quicksand Jesus” and said, “Snake played his usual guitar part, and I would imitate it with my voice – and he’d look panicked and play some more. After the show, he comes up like, ‘Lzzy, can I talk to you for a second?’ I immediately think I’m in trouble. But he gives me this huge hug. And he goes, ‘I have never gotten to improv with any of my singers.’ I will carry that with me forever.”
Those Hale/Skid Row shows left a significant impression on many, including Jon Bon Jovi. In June 2024, Bon Jovi sat down with Rock Sound and took part in the outlet’s feature called “Rock Star Questions,” where musicians ask other musicians questions. Hale was one of the musicians that posed a question to Bon Jovi, who lit up right away upon hearing her name.
“She should please join Skid Row. Please, Lzzy Hale, join Skid Row,” said Bon Jovi, in a sing-song way. “Put the two bands together, if you need to.”
He then added, with a laugh, “This is the best thing that happened to Snake [Sabo] since he met me.”
Hale caught wind of Bon Jovi’s glowing words and shared the clip on Instagram. She said in response, “What a compliment, what an honor.”
