Is A New York Landlord Being Fined Over A ‘Fart Complaint?’
Is a New York landlord being fined over a fart complaint? That’s what he’s claiming!
If you’ve never been to New York City, you’re definitely missing out. Missing out on all the sights, tastes, and even the smells. There’s a distinctive smell in New York City, and it’s not necessarily a good one. It makes sense though with such a high population, that means a lot of garbage. The streets can end up smelling terrible and I guess the buildings can too. Is this landlord in trouble over a fart complaint? That’s what he’s saying!
New York Landlord Claims He’s Being Fined For A ‘Fart Complaint’
While the smell of pee and garbage is common in New York City, some areas are worse than others and some scents are worse than others as well. Sometimes, that stench can lead to fines and that’s what apparently is happening here.
According to The New York Post, John Crotty, co-owner of the East 147th Street Housing Development Fund Corp. was hit with a $1,000 summons from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for a foul odor in his Bronx building. He claims that it’s just a fart complaint. However, the smell has been described as something similar to animal waste and that does not sound great. You don’t want to be living somewhere with that kind of stench around.
The violation issued by health inspector Eric Han at the 21-unit apartment building said, “A nuisance condition exists in that a foul odor resembling animal waste was detected at the bottom of [the] stairwell located at [the] lower-level front exterior of the premises,” via The New York Post. That doesn’t sound good at all! Now, Crotty is fighting back saying it’s just a fart complaint and perhaps the inspector was “crop dusted.” Crotty along with the building superintendent Rashad Pryatt say there are instances of getting hit with a $50 ticket from the city Department of Sanitation for a violation regarding a defective trash container or issues with garbage pick-up but the problem is rectified, per The New York Post.
It sounds like they’re saying it’s just a smell in the neighborhood and has nothing to do with them or what they’re doing. It’s probably just some of that classic New York City stench that the city is famous for. Could it be? It’s possible. However, a DOH spokesman is defending the fine and says there was indeed animal waste found on the premises, per The New York Post.
