Did A Water Gun Fight Lead To The Arrest Of A Canadian Woman?
Did a water gun fight lead to the arrest of a Canadian woman? That’s what she’s claiming!
It’s summer, the weather’s hot, and it can be a good time for a water gun fight. It’s a great way to have some fun and even cool off in the heat. However, one woman in Canada remains in disbelief after she was charged with assault with a weapon for what she says was spraying a person during a water gun fight, per Windsor Star!
Water Gun Fight Leads To Arrest
Water guns are usually designed in odd shapes and bright colors to let everyone know that it is not a real weapon. You don’t want anyone confusing the 2 as they are drastically different and serve different purposes. However, it sounds like those designs don’t always help you even when they should.
According to Windsor Star, 58-year-old Wendy Washik was named in a news release after a Labor Day Weekend incident on Woodway Trail in Simcoe and has even been suspended from her job because of it. She tells Windsor Star, “I’m very upset that my full name was disclosed (but) the type of weapon wasn’t mentioned.” On September 1st, law enforcement was reportedly alerted to a neighbor dispute where one person was said to be physically assaulted but no injuries were reported.
It sounds like she was hoping the news release mentioned it was a water gun and not a real gun. Meanwhile, OPP spokesperson Const. Andrew Gamble tells Windsor Star that details about what kinds of weapons are involved are not generally shared with the public. Washik’s daughter says her mother was in a water gun fight with some neighbor kids when another neighbor was hit with a rogue spray of water, per Windsor Star. However, when police arrived to the scene she was criminally charged over it.
Now, a GoFundMe has been started to try to help her with legal fees as she’s been suspended from her 25-year career as an educational assistant, per Windsor Star. Const. Gamble tells Windsor Star that every investigation is handled appropriately, telling Windsor Star, “We are committed to maintaining high standards in our investigative work, regardless of how the public may perceive the allocation of resources. Our focus remains on doing our job effectively, ensuring that each case receives the attention it deserves, regardless of public perception.”
She’s set to appear in court on September 24th. I’ve had some bad neighbors in my life, but never one who’d charge me over a water gun fight! If that’s really all there is to this story then that’s crazy!
