Why Was There An Open Casket In A Warren, MI Park?
We covered a very strange story this morning out of Warren, MI that involved an open casket in a park. Dave didn’t believe it was real at first but, it is in fact real, and there are pictures to prove what happened.
According to CBS Detroit, authorities responded to calls in Warren, MI about an open casket, with a body inside, being displayed in Butcher Park. The story went viral after a photo of the casket was posted online. We had so many questions about why it was there and who was behind it.
It turns out, a family that lived nearby was unable to view their deceased loved one at the cemetery with an open casket. So, they decided to have the viewing at a park close to their house. The photo was taken before any family members were in attendance. And, it’s just an open casket with a dead body inside, and the person who transports them sitting next to it.
It obviously startled some people because they called the local police department in order to report it. There will be no charges filed because having an open casket viewing in a park is not illegal. However, because of it’s nature, it’s suggest and strongly encouraged to inform someone that a special ceremony is taking place.
We too, were shocked. As mentioned above, Dave didn’t believe this was a real story. Why not just have the viewing at a family member’s house. Or, why not keep the casket closed until family arrives? We thought about the kids running around and playing that might have been asking questions about the person lying down in a box in the park.
