Chess Champion Allegedly Attempts To Poison Rival
A Russian chess champion allegedly attempted to poison her rival! It supposedly stemmed over the other bad-mouthing her family–and it was all caught on camera.
Clearly, the chess world is much more competitive than we though! You wouldn’t think the sophisticated game would become a matter of life and death but here we are. Now, she’s potentially facing up to 3 years in prison for it if she’s convicted!
Chess Champion Allegedly Attempts To Poison Rival
First, there was the vibrating sex toy scandal in chess where chess grandmaster Hans Niemann was accused of using a vibrating sex toy in his butt to cheat. Now, we’re talking about a chess champion who allegedly tried to poison her rival? I never would have expected chess to be this competitive and crazy!
Security camera footage appears to show Amina Abakarova, 40, sneaking into the tournament room at the Dagestan Chess Championship in Makhachkala, Russia. In the video, she can be seen checking if the coast is clear and then casually walking through the room before stopping and removing something from her bag. That’s when she’s spotted pouring a substance across the table and onto the chessboard and even rubs it on several pieces before exiting the room.
According to The New York Post, her target, 30-year-old Umayganat Osmanova sat at the spot where she spread the substance and even ended up falling ill during her match. Clearly, something was off and a judge reported her suspicious illness to police who ended up checking out the surveillance tapes, per The New York Post. It’s reported that she told police she had broken a thermometer over the table and spread mercury on the board, per The New York Post. Mercury! That can be deadly and toxic to the central and peripheral nervous systems.
Local Minister of Sport Sazhida Sazhidova says, “I am perplexed by what happened, and the motives of such an experienced competitor as Amina Abakarova are incomprehensible. The actions she took could have led to a most tragic outcome, threatening the lives of everyone who was present, including herself.,” via The New York Post. Now, she’s facing up to 3 years in prison if she’s convicted, and it’s not any prison. Remember this is a Russian prison. I feel like that’s worth pointing out here. To make things worse, The New York Post reports that she’s a chess coach at a local school! That’s probably not the strategy you want to be teaching kids. Sounds like they may have a new coach soon.
