Motor City Nightmares is held every summer. It’s on its 16th year of scaring Detroit.
MeltdownThe Motor City Nightmares Horror Expo & Film Festival happened over the weekend. It was my first time attending, but I'll definitely be returning next year. If you're a horror movie lover like me, put it on your list for 2025.
MeltdownThere are lots of vendors at Motor City Nightmares. T-shirts from just about any horror movie are available.
My only complaint is that this past weekend was so nice, and I'm not a huge fan of indoor activities on days like that. Of course, organizers can't help that.
Motor City Nightmares Going Strong For 16 Years
A big thank you to Daniel Brown, who invited me. He puts it on every year. He told me this is the 16th year of the con, held at the Sheridan in Novi on 8 Mile and Haggerty. He said, "We love the fans who support what we're doing." He mentioned a few of the horror stars who were in the Motor City, including Mekhi Phifer, who has a long list of television and film credits, to Tyler Mane, who has many himself but is best known for his roles as Sabertooth and Micheal Myers in the Halloween remakes. There were many more in attendance. See who was at the con by clicking here.
MeltdownI loved this sign. It took me back to my youth seeing Jaws in the theater. Classic!
Many fans dressed up as their favorite horror characters as they went from aisle to aisle of vendors, including my friends from the Dancing Eye Gallery in Northville, selling horror-related artwork, DVDs, clothing, and more. A shoutout to Steve, Aaron, and Greg from the band Voyag3r (pronounced Voyager 3), who were on hand and also performed Saturday night. They were there promoting their music, which appears on the Killer Kabbage movie soundtrack.
MeltdownI talked with the guys from the band Voyag3r for a while. I have to see the movie Killer Kabage, in which their music is featured. It sounds interesting.
Make your plans for next year, and maybe I'll see you there!
Looks like I have another movie to add to my list. The Thicket, starring Peter Dinklage, Juliette Lewis, and a guy named James Hetfield from Metallica, stars in this dark western. Look for the Elliott Lester film in theaters on September 6th. It's a perfect fit, as James is a huge Western movie fan.
In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
Other Metallica News
As for other Metallica news, there's plenty. The boys recently learned how to press vinyl. You can read about that experience here.
Metallica will once again perform for their All Within My Hands charity on December 13th at the YouTube Theater in L.A. After taking a year off; the concert will raise money for their foundation, which supports workforce education, the fight against hunger, disaster relief, and other causes. More than 3 million dollars was raised at the last event in 2022, which featured Greta Van Fleet, Tom Morello, and others.
Even More Metallica News
The guys announced the unveiling of the digital Cliff Burton exhibit in their Metallica Black Box online museum. It's called "Orion: A Tribute to Cliff Burton" and will include pictures, interviews, and more to highlight the career of the bassist who was taken from us way too young.
This look at Cliff's life is available to Metallica's Fifth Fan Club, which is free to join.
