Teacher Rants About Bad Parents On Social Media
You’d have to imagine it’s difficult to be a teacher. I know I wouldn’t have the patience to deal with young students. They can be temperamental and intentionally agitating. Kids aren’t just bullies to other students, I’ve seen them bully teachers, too! Additionally, it’s not just bad students they’re interacting with–there are bad parents too. Teachers can go through a lot and that’s why it’s always important to show gratitude towards the people educating our youth.
However, sometimes even they can run out of patience and snap. According to Yahoo!, Brenda C. (@fitpeanut) was a teacher who has since retired after seeming to have had enough. She recently took to social media to vent about her feelings about the profession and why she chose to leave it. She seems to have noticed a change in behavior recently that she wants nothing to do with.
In the viral video, the 60-year-old former middle-school teacher in California explains, “I have seen education change in 24 years, and it hasn’t changed for the better. And a lot of it has to do with parenting or lack thereof.” She vents about interruptions in the classroom and how parents aren’t helping by often sending their students to school unprepared and without the proper supplies. She compares being a teacher these days to essentially being like a babysitter.
She goes on to vent about a “new” type of parent that she seems to encounter a lot who lets their child run the home and allows the kid to be in charge. She believes that “child-centered” homes create an attitude in the classroom that’s untouchable, per Yahoo! Now, this has create a debate online. Some people are saying she has a point and this does appear to be a common thing in society these days where the child is in charge. However, others say this has always been a thing and it’s a part of the career she chose.
