My Favorite Michigan Beach Things to Do – And They’re Free
It’s really wonderful to live in Michigan in the summer. Sure, we have humid weather. But, when it comes to my favorite Michigan beach things to do, I don’t even care about the humidity and stickiness in the air. It also makes me forget about cold winters with snow and ice. Almost. In any case, I really love going to the beach during the summer months, and I have my entire life. I guess that’s what happens when you were born and raised a Michigander. Here are some of my favorite Michigan beach things to do, and the best news is that they’re all free.

Create Art
I’m actually a painter and love painting. I find that dragging all of my painting supplies to the beach doesn’t work out too well, though. Also, my acrylic paint dries quickly in the warm air when I try to paint on the beach. So, instead, something fun to do at the beach that’s art-related is to bring a sketch book and draw. You can also bring some coloring books, either adult or kid ones.
Read a Good Book
Of course, the beach is a peaceful place to read. I find that you have to find a more private area of the beach to get some quality reading in, though. Thankfully, my uncle lives on Lake Michigan, so there’s hardly anyone around when I’m at the beach. But, if you’re at a public beach, find a little spot where nobody is around, and get your reading on.
Collect Seashells
Collecting seashells isn’t just for kids. Adults can have fun looking for seashells, too. If you find a bunch try to make them into jewelry or some kind of a decoration to remember your trip to the beach forever.
Have a Picnic
I can’t get through a summer without having at least one picnic. Having a picnic at the beach is super fun and relaxing. Just make sure to avoid getting sand in your food and drinks. That can be gross.
Sunbathe or Swim
The Great Lakes can be very cold. So, I don’t go swimming in the Great Lakes no matter the season. But, if you don’t mind the cold, go for a swim. Just stay safe and follow precautions. You can also just lay on a beach town, crank your favorite music and soak up the sun. So, those are some of my favorite Michigan beach things to do. Happy summer, my friend.

Netflix and Chill
Have a vacation in your living room or bedroom. Make it a movie-watching marathon. Watch a string of your favorite guilty-pleasure movies or binge-watch a brand new series. Either way, it’ll be cozy and comfy.

If you have a state or national park nearby, use your vacation time to go adventuring. Being at a local park can offer some breathtaking scenery, especially in the summer. Have a picnic out there, too. If you don’t have a state or national park close by, try a local park.

Nearly every town has a local museum or art gallery. Perhaps you’ve never really had the time to visit your local museum or art spot. Use your vacation time to explore those local spots, and you might find a new favorite place.

Stay at a Local Hotel, Airbnb or Bed-and-Breakfast
If you’ve driven by that new hotel for a while and wondered what it’s like inside, why not book it for a night? You don’t have to be traveling to say at a hotel, Airbnb or local bed-and-breakfast. It can make for an exciting adventure right in your backyard.

Have a Party
Using vacation time to plan a big party for friends is a good use of that time. Instead of traveling around the world, bring to world to you. Invite lots of your good friends, and spend some of the cash you would have on a vacation for your party. It’ll be the party of the year. Make that decade.

Have a Spa Day
Pamper yourself. Maybe you think having a spa day is too much of a luxury, but if you’re saving money by not taking a big trip, why not use that money for a spa day? It’s not just for ladies, either. Guys can book a spa day for a variety of services. It’ll make for a day of bliss.
