Are Office Goggles The New Beer Goggles?

Have you ever heard of Office Goggles? You've likely heard of Beer Goggles, and this is kind of, almost, sort of the same thing. Now, Office Goggles is a trending term.

So, what is this "new" phenomenon? Let's check it out to make sure we're all in the know, in case this continues to take off.

In case you aren't familiar, "wearing beer goggles" is what happens when people look more attractive after you've been drinking. If you weren't drinking alcohol, you typically wouldn't find these people in the office attractive.

Now, Office Goggles are becoming a thing. So, what is it? It's when you find yourself finding co-workers attractive. They say it's because of repeated exposure to the same people on a daily basis. The theory is: you get closer to these people and by working closely and directly with them on a daily basis, sometimes you might start to be attracted or drawn to them--even if they aren't normally your "type."

It makes sense. Your co-workers are the people you're surrounded by every day consistently. You're drawn to eventually develop deep connections, or even superficial ones. You could develop close friendships, or just start giving flirty glances while walking past each other's desk. It could be totally nonverbal without any sort of word being spoken.

Now, some experts are warning that if you start noticing feelings for a co-worker it might not be love. It could just be you wearing Office Goggles. Remember: there's a difference between a wife and a work wife. Don't make the mistake of confusing the two!

The New York Post reports that a study found 40% of staffers in the U.S. have either "enjoyed a few lusty rolls in the hay with a co-worker or two" or have had a full-on relationship with a co-worker. Personally, I never want to (and never have wanted to) dip my proverbial pen in the company ink. Too many problems can come out of it! If you ever break up, which is inevitable, what happens then? No, thank you! Too messy for me.
