Detroit Lions Playoff Picture: Here’s Why the Seahawks Just Helped Detroit

It almost happened, but not quite. If the Seattle Seahawks had fallen to the Philadelphia Eagles last night (Dec. 18), the Detroit Lions would have automatically been in the playoffs. Dry those tears, though, Lions fans. There's a huge silver lining here. In fact, many Lions fans were rooting for a Seattle win, myself included, because it opens up the Lions' chances to snag the No. 2 seed in the NFC. What's more, the Lions still have a better than 99% chance to qualify for the playoffs, so why not just go for the No. 2 seed, knowing the playoffs will come? Here's the current Detroit Lions playoff picture and why the Seahawks just helped Detroit.

The Lions won their last game against the Denver Broncos on Saturday night (Dec. 16) at Ford Field. The final score was 42-17, so it was a definitive win. It was so wild to see Russell Wilson and the Broncos at the mercy of the Lions. Now, as aforementioned, the Lions would have snagged an instant playoff spot if the Eagles had won on "Monday Night Football." But, the Eagles decided to tap Matt Patricia to make defensive calls, and we all knew how that would end. What were they thinking? So, the Eagles lost. That takes their record to 10-4, which is the same as the Lions.

Here's the great thing about Seattle winning and how it will help the Detroit Lions playoff picture. Now, the Lions have a chance to get the No. 2 seed in the conference and possibly get a second playoff home game. That instantly happens if they win their final three games, even if the Eagles win their final three games. Of course, we're playing the Cowboys in Texas, so that's a tall order. But, the Cowboys have shown they are very beatable. Also, Detroit could even get the No. 1 seed, but for that scenario, the San Francisco 49ers would have to lose two of their final three games. Even though the 49ers are strong, they could lose two, as they have two challenging teams up ahead: the Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Rams.

All of that said, the most important game coming up for the Lions is this Sunday in Minnesota. If the Detroit Lions win that game, they'll not only get a playoff spot, but they'll also earn the division title for the first time in 30 years. Of course, the Lions could go up against Matthew Stafford and the L.A. Rams in the playoffs, which I would hate. I really don't want to see a Stafford vs. Goff showdown. I personally favor Jared Goff, which you know if you read my articles or listen to my podcast, "The Squad with Anne Erickson." But, Stafford is like that ex who you just want to avoid. Sunday isn't often a day you look forward to. It's the final day of the weekend, and the next day you're back to work. However, come September everything changes. Sunday becomes the most anticipated day of the week, and why? Because of NFL football. Despite watching football every Sunday, drawing every NFL team logo by memory still proves to be difficult.

I'm familiar with all 32 teams in the NFL. Most football fans are. However, when it comes time to draw their logos it becomes more difficult to remember all the tiny nuances in the team's logos. It also doesn't help that I have zero (0) drawing skills. Honestly, my drawing skills are probably on par with a Kindergartener or Elementary student.

I'm not afraid to be honest about my flaws. I'll proudly come out and say it: I cannot draw. It's something I've never been able to do. In fact, basically anything that has to do with arts and crafts I'm terrible at. Cutting with scissors? No idea how to keep it straight. Handwriting? Absolutely horrid. Drawing? Dreadful.

Thankfully, I have (some) skills in other fields so I don't have to worry about being terrible at drawing. Something I'm good at? Making fun of myself. So, I found a way to incorporate this skill with my lack of skills in drawing. I decided I was going to go out and have my other fellow football fans identify NFL teams by my terrible drawing.

So, I got out some paper, found a pen, and got to drawing. Of course, to add to the fun I had to implement some basic rules for myself. The first rule? No looking up the logos. I have to do it all by memory. Google'ing or looking up their logos for help is cheating, and would disqualify me from the project. Additionally, I get one shot for each logo. If I notice something wrong, too bad. These drawings are set in stone and there's no going back. I simply must own my mistakes. As far as rules go, that was pretty much it. In the words of Eric Cartman, "I don't make the rules. I just think them up and write them down."

Now that we've established the rules, let's get to the game! Let's see if these football fans are able to identify what team logo I've drawn, or if the drawings are too terrible to even recognize. Well, they did about as well as I expected them to do. Can't say it's their fault. I think I have to own this one. Keep scrolling to see my drawing of all 32 NFL teams!

Well, I didn't start off great that's for sure. I feel like this looks more like an Angry Bird than the Cardinals logo. At least it's the right animal?

I don't think this one is terrible! I got the overall shape down correctly. That signature little V shape is important and it's there. I feel like any NFL fan should know that this is the Falcons logo.

Yeah...not great. Looks more like a Dodo bird, or something. It definitely doesn't look as intimidating as their real logo. I own that. The "B" should be a giveaway, though.

I'm not going to lie...I think I nailed this one. It's clearly a Buffalo. Right? That random line is coming out of it for some reason, just like the real logo! Nailed it.

Look...what else do you want? Clearly that's a Panther. I suppose it could be a Jaguar, but NFL fans should be able to recognize that profile. I hope...

If you watched the video above...it looks like I got this one wrong myself during the game. I said it was the Panthers...which it could easily be! However, it's not. It's the Chicago Bears. I told you I can't draw!!

Finally, an easy one. Clearly, this is the logo of the Cincinnati Bengals. It's a dead giveaway. Even with me drawing it. Now, that's saying something.

People I talked to had a hard time with this one. Kind of surprised me because it's the most basic boring logo in the entire NFL. It's a helmet! That's it. Looking at it, I think you can see a helmet. Or maybe a hat. Regardless, it's headwear and no other NFL team has that in their logo. Has to be the Browns!

You know...looking at this it really hits me that I cannot draw. The other logos are tough, and I feel like it should be understandable that I can't draw them. However, this is simply a star and I still couldn't pull it off. Pretty pathetic.

I know what you're thinking. "Did he trace that?" Nope. It's all me drawing from memory. Not too shabby, eh?

This is a bummer. Somehow, my home town team ended up being the worst drawing of them all. How does that happen? It's the one I'm most familiar with! Looks like a dog with a perm.

Simplicity at its finest. Surely you know this is the logo for the Green Bay Packers. It was nice to have an easy one thrown in. Although, I admit it's still not great especially for how basic it is.

Hey, I don't think this one turned out terrible. In fact, it's pretty good! No other team has a logo that looks anything like this. Should be an easy one to get. You're welcome!

Maybe I can draw! That's a pretty well drawn horseshoe. I can surprise myself sometimes. Keep going for some more awful drawings.

That could be one of my better drawings. Look, it's not my fault that the Jaguars and the Panthers have similar logos. I'm just doing my best over here. Never mind me. You see it, right? A noticeable difference between this and the Panthers.

Yeah, this is kind of cheating but...it's the logo! I didn't choose for it to have "KC" in it. It just worked out that way. Luckily for me...there are a couple more coming where this happened too.

As I look at this, I'm starting to doubt that the Raiders real logo is smiling. I guess I just felt like it was an artistic choice. Definitely not as intimidating as the real thing. I own that mistake. However, it might be cuter? If that means anything...

Ugh. I can't even draw a lightning bolt?! That's a major let down. I don't know where the edges are supposed to go! It looks like a bolt to me. It shouldn't be hard to tell that this is the LA Chargers, even if it is a bad drawing.

Nope, I didn't make this one on a computer. That's drawn by hand. Pretty close to the real thing, I'd say.

Again, not the best drawing ever but I think it comes close. What else do you want out of me? I got the basic dolphin shape and that sun outline. That's pretty much all there is to it.

I'm not going to lie...I thought this could be one of my best. Then I realized that "my best" probably isn't saying much. I get it. Someone said it looked like a chicken with a helmet and now that's all I can see.

Eh. Not terrible! I think I have a problem making these mascots and logos smile instead of looking serious. I'll work on that the next time around. I don't think this is awful, though.

Even though it's a horrible drawing, it's still obvious what team this is. I will say that it's a pretty difficult shape to draw from memory. Mine may be a little chubby or inflated instead of edgy, but it works. Get off my back, man!

I think my effort here was pretty low but what do you expect? It's two letters. That's the entire logo. I didn't design it, I just drew it. Don't blame me.

If you thought the last one was lazy, this one may top it. Logos with the name of the team in it is like cheating, I admit. However, I needed the break.

Woah! Not bad! Finally, I was able to make the mascot look a little more mean and intimidating. Thank goodness I came close to getting the Eagles correctly because I know how Philly sports fans can be. I do not want any of that smoke.

You should be able to guess which logo this is. I suppose the team name being in the logo helps. Maybe I shouldn't have included that part?

Simplicity is key. Notice the attention to detail with the letters overlapping. I did this myself. Might have to hang this one on the fridge.

I feel like I'm missing something here. I remembered the skull and cross bones, though. The flag should let you know it's Bucs not the Raiders.

I am really bad at drawing stars. They seem so simple yet I can't get it. Stars aside, this isn't my worst drawing.

Yeah, I was ready for this to be over by the time I got to Washington. I know it's just a W with some weird lines. Close enough, in my opinion.
