Here’s How the Detroit Lions Can Snag a Playoff Spot Today or Tomorrow
We’re one step closer, baby, and I’m not talking about the Linkin Park song. The Detroit Lions pulled off a huge and much-needed win on Saturday night (Dec. 16), taking on the Denver Broncos at Ford Field and winning 42-17. That game was such a highlight of the season. After the past several games being shaky, the naysayers started coming out of the woodwork, but now, they’re nowhere to be found. It was actually the perfect day for me, because I went to my family Christmas early in the day and had a great time, then found out that the Spartans shockingly beat Baylor and then watched the Lions slaughter the Broncos. Oh, happy day! So, how do the Detroit Lions snag a playoff spot as early as today (Dec. 17) or tomorrow (Dec. 18)? Side note: Check out Amon-Ra St. Brown’s flip, pictured above. This guy is more than human.
How the Lions Can Snag a Playoff Spot Today or Tomorrow
The Lions can score a playoff spot two ways over the next two days. Both the Packers and Vikings lost their seventh games this week, which is good news for the Lions. So, the first way the Lions can cinch a playoff is if today, the L.A. Rams lose. For those of you who don’t like Matthew Stafford, here’s yet another reason to root against the Rams! The NFL schedule has them taking on the Commanders at 4:05 p.m. EST. The Rams are 6-7, so if they lose, there’s no way they’d mathematically be able to catch up to the Lions. Go, Washington! Sadly, the Commanders don’t seem like a challenge for the Rams right now. But, stranger things have happened.
That takes us to option two. If the Seahawks lose to the Eagles tomorrow, the Lions will cinch a playoff spot. That games is at 8:15 p.m. EST Monday. The Eagles are favored to win, but I smell an upset. As I see it, even if the Eagles lose and the Lions don’t get that playoff spot just yet, it pulled the Eagles down a bit more in the NFC, making it less likely that the Lions would come up against them in the playoffs, which would be a win. But, if you want a quick and dirty playoff spot for the Lions on Monday, root for Jalen Hurts and company. Reach out to me here and listen to the my NFL podcast here.
