Music video still from “Bad Habit”

Upon Wings

Last Friday (Aug. 4), I released a new song with my band Upon Wings, "Bad Habit." Now, I've released a new music video for "Bad Habit," as well. So, what's it like to film a music video?

Since Upon Wings is pretty much my personal project, I do a lot of the music and promotion myself. This is really true with the music videos. Only a few times have I had an outsider film or edit my music videos. There are pluses and minuses to this, of course. The positive is that I can have total "creative control" over the process. I can shape the music video to tell the kind of story I'm trying to tell. But, of course, the negative is that hiring someone with real music video expertise would be helpful. Still, I enjoy doing these music videos, and I hope you enjoy watching them.

So, here we go. This is the official music video for "Bad Habit." I filmed the indoor scenes in a room in my place with cool, blue lighting. The outdoors scenes were shot on Michigan Avenue in downtown Lansing. I have to give props to my mom for filming the outdoor scenes. She's great. She also helped filmed the outdoor scenes for a bunch of my other music videos.

I've had a few people actually say that this is one of my best music videos! I like that it tells a story. I also had another Upon Wings listener say, "Wow. Some guy really did you wrong!" Haha. All of my music is written from personal experience, but don't worry, it's a dramatization. But, I felt like I could kind of "act" in this music video, which was fun. It was nice to feel like I could act out a part, almost like a play. I hope you like it! Find Upon Wings online here and here.

If heavy metal is more your thing, check out my music video for "Last Love":

I've been at the WRIF for about two years and three months now, but who's counting? Maybe you know me well by now, and maybe you don't. Either way, here are some facts about me that you might be surprised to find out! I want to thank you for rocking with me here at WRIF!

My cousin was Ed Farhat, the Original Sheik

True story! I have wrestling in my blood. My mom has great stories of her encounters with The Sheik. I'm so honored to be in the same family as the old time wrestling great The Sheik! It's always fun to tell people who are familiar with his legacy. I've even made friends with some people at WWE because of my family roots. I'm also related to the great Sabu!

My dad was a boxer in Detroit in High School

My dad grew up in Detroit and actually trained with one of the same guys who trained Joe Louis. So, yeah, guys who wanted to date me in high school had to deal with meeting my father, the boxer, which was pretty intimidating! That said, my dad is the nicest guy on the planet, so he'll only use his boxing skills if he absolutely has to do it.

I love to paint

I used to paint in college and recently got back into it. I currently paint coasters with landscapes and scenes. Some of my most requested designs are the Detroit City Skyline and a Michigan Lighthouse. I love painting and making art. I've also been getting scrapbook paper, painting it and framing it, to add cool designs to the walls.

I'm in a band called Upon Wings

You probably already know this, because I often scream it at the top of my lungs on social media. I have a band called Upon Wings. Please check us out and follow us on all the usual platforms! Find us at UponWings.com. I also play bass guitar. Flea and Victor Wooten are a few of my favorite bass players.

I have a STEM degree

Yes, even though I was destined to be in rock and metal radio, I actually have an undergraduate degree from Michigan State University in a STEM field: package engineering. Then I also got a Master's in Theater, so I totally switched gears. No regrets!

I collect Hello Kitty

I got really into Hello Kitty for a while, and then kind of put it away. Recently, I've rekindled my love for Hello Kitty and have all kinds of cool items, such as a Hello Kitty toaster, necklace, pillows, blankets, etc. I can never have too much Hello Kitty. Oh, and I'm obsessed with a Hello Kitty game on Steam. Add me here.

I don't have any tattoos

Unless you count my temporary Care Bear tattoos. Because I do wear temporary Care Bear tattoos. Yep. I love how tattoos look on other people, but I think it would take me forever to pick something that I knew would be permanent on my skin, so no tattoos for me.

I love farms, rivers and nature

I absolutely love the peace of the county. I really enjoy farms, rivers and nature, in general. Looking around at the vast land, it's a reminder that we are a small spec in the universe, and that nothing is really in our control. Alright, enough deep talk from me.

I love football

I love both college and NFL football! In fact, I just launched a podcast on the WRIF called "The Squad," following the new Lions season. Football is by far my favorite sport. Basketball is my second favorite. Please subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts! Find more information here.

I'm a vegetarian

My whole life, I've been either a vegetarian or pescatarian. I recently tried going back to being a pescatarian, meaning eating fish and dairy but no red meat or poultry. But, I'm back to being a general vegetarian, meaning I eat dairy but not red meat, fish or poultry. It just agrees with my body. And it means I still get to eat sweets like ice cream and cookies.

I have a rock and metal podcast

Subscribe on Apple Podcasts here and Spotify here! I've had this podcast as long as I can remember. Some of my favorite guests have included Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue, Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam and Rob Halford of Judas Priest, although all of my guests have been fantastic. I'm no Meltdown, but I do what I can! ;)

Anne Erickson started her radio career shortly after graduating from Michigan State University and has worked on-air in Detroit, Flint, Toledo, Lansing and beyond. As someone who absolutely loves rock, metal and alt music, she instantly fell in love with radio and hasn’t looked back. When she’s not working, Anne makes her own music with her band, Upon Wings, and she also loves cheering on her favorite Detroit and Michigan sports teams, especially Lions and MSU football. Anne is also an award-winning journalist, and her byline has run in a variety of national publications. You can also hear her weekends on WRIF.
