Farmer’s Almanac Predicts Brutal Michigan Winter – But Are They Right?
The past few years have been mild ones in Michigan. I remember being a kind and having tons and tons of snow, every winter. Now, we don’t seem to get nearly as much, and the winters seems to just be more mild. I have to admit that I’m super happy about the change. I can’t stand the snow and ice. I’m already cringing at the thought of even fall bringing a cool breeze to the warm, summer air. Now, the Farmer’s Almanac has come out with its Michigan Farmer’s Almanac predictions for the 2023-2024 winter season. They predict a brutal Michigan winter, but are they right?
Farmer’s Almanac predicts a brutal Michigan winter: But are they accurate?
The Almanac states that Michigan will have a “cold” and “stormy” winter. “Our extended weather forecast, which is based on a mathematical and astronomical formula, calls for below-average temperatures and lots of snowstorms, sleet, ice, rain for much of the Great Lakes and Midwest areas of the country, as well as central and northern New England, especially in January and February. (Brrr…),” they write. Find the full study here.
But, are they accurate? Well, last year’s report said that Michiganders should get ready to “shake, shiver, and shovel!” It also stated that the Great Lakes region could get an “unreasonably cold, snowy” experience, mainly in January. In addition, the Almanac predicted that “the first bite of winter should come earlier than last year’s. December 2022 looks stormy and cold nationwide with an active storm pattern developing and hanging around for most of the season over the eastern half of the country.”
Okay, so they were right about December 2022. It was stormy earlier than normal. But, other than that, it was a very mild winter, especially last February. So, they were wrong about the rest. Let’s forget about the snow and check out these fun things to do at the lake.
