It’s true: Greta Van Fleet top the Billboard charts again. The Michigan-bred band has hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums, Top Hard Rock Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums charts with their new album, Starcatcher. The album dropped on Friday, July 21. This is the band’s third total and consecutive No. 1 on the charts.
Greta Van Fleet Top the Billboard Charts – Again
The album, released through Lava/Republic Records, also hit No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart. In addition, it’s charting internationally in Germany (No.2), Switzerland (No. 2), Belgium (No. 4), Austria (No. 6), the Netherlands (No. 7), the UK (No.8), Italy (No. 18)) and Canada (No. 19). Starcatcher marks the group’s second top 10 album.
In a statement, lead singer Josh Kiszka said of the album, “Starcatcher is a dangerous and delightful expedition into a both violent and gentle dreamlike landscape. A purgatory of duality where brutality and beauty clash like a thunderstorm of stillness. Neither fact nor fiction inhabit the far reaches of this surrealist world. A storybook for the fighters and lovers alike Starcatcher captures a certain wonder on the fringe of mayhem.”
The band is also on their “Starcatcher” world tour, which started July 24 in Nashville and runs through a Sept. 27 date in Mexico. By the way, many of the band members reside in Nashville now, but we still claim them as Michiganders. The band will headline Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Friday, Sept. 8. They also play some legendary venues, such as the famed Madison Square Garden in New York and The Forum in Los Angeles, plus London’s OVO Arena Wembley and more.
11 Butt Rock Songs that Actually Rule
With Creed reuniting for the first time in a decade, we can’t help but explore a certain controversial subgenre: Butt Rock.
The origins and definition of Butt Rock are murky, at best. One listing on Urban Dictionary defines the subgenre as, “A style of hard rock & heavy metal music that is watered down both musically and lyrically to garner maximum radio play and mainstream acceptance.” Typically, Butt Rock bands cropped up in the late ’90s and throughout the aughts. However, other Urban Dictionary definitions classify ’80s hair metal as Butt Rock, too.
Perhaps, Butt Rock is truly in the ear of the beholder. It might just be a derogatory term rock fans use on bands they don’t like. For the sake of this list, we’re classifying Butt Rock in relation to music released in the late ’90s and throughout the aughts.
Without further ado, here are 11 Butt Rock songs that actually rule.
