‘Superstar’ Competition Returns To The 2023 Michigan State Fair
We love supporting our local Michigan community of bands and music fans, and it’s great to see that the ‘State Fair Superstar‘ competition is happening again in 2023 at the Michigan State Fair.
The annual State Fair will be taking place over Labor Day Weekend, from August 31st – September 4th. While the Fair starts on Thursday, the ‘Superstar’ competition will kickoff at 11am on Saturday. The 10 Superstar Semi-Finalists have already been narrowed down by a panel of judges, after viewing live and video auditions in July.
The competition will narrow down to 5 Superstar Finalists for Sunday’s performances starting at noon. The Grand Prize winner will then headline the Main Stage on Monday afternoon. The Runner-Up and Honorable Mention will perform as opening acts for the Gran Prize winner on Monday.

What’s at stake?
More than just pride, that’s for sure. According to their website, this Superstar competition follows in the mold of recent TV singing competitions, like American Idol and The Voice, where the winner, in addition to the glory and hardware, wins a one-of-a-kind mentorship. Through this artist development package, the winner will get to work with award winning Detroit artist Jill Jack that’s specific to the artist’s sound and needs, booking consultation, and production of a three song EP, in addition to $2,000 cash.
Previous winners of the Michigan State Fair Superstar competition include Joe Jarvis in 2022, Loxodon in 2021, Carmen Diaz in 2019, and more.
The Michigan State Fair takes place at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, located at 46100 Grand River Ave, Novi, MI 48374.
