The Vinyl Frontier – A 1990 Cinderella Album

Heartbreak Station is an outstanding Cinderella album. It was the last album from them before the boom of grunge destroyed the bands of the 80s. Released in 1990, the third record from the eastern Pennsylvania band, it’s biggest song off of it was “Shelter Me”, their commentary on the current cultural climate.

They wouldn’t release another album for four years, but by then the Seattle sound had a stranglehold on music.

This album is very solid rock/blues record. Go revisit it if you don’t believe me.

Rudy Sarzo And Quiet Riot Rock Smuggler's Run In Wyandotte, Michigan

Quiet Riot brought the “Noize” Friday night to Smuggler’s Run in Wyandotte. I was looking forward to the show for many reasons. First off, I’ve interviewed Rudy Sarzo many times, but never met him. So I checked that off the list. He was as pleasant as you’d expect him to be. Very nice!

Secondly, I’ve never had the chance to see or meet, singer Jizzy Pearl. He popped onto the scene back in the day with his band Love/Hate. He did an amazing job of bringing these songs to life, and they even played the Love/Hate classic “Blackout in the Red Room”. What A Jam!!

Thirdly, I’ve had interaction with guitarist Alex Grossi over the years, but had never met him either. He was really nice, and a killer player!

And, of course, I had to hang with my brother, drummer Johnny Kelly. I met Johnny about five or six years ago. He married a woman from Ann Arbor, who reached out to me to interview him. I’m a big Type O Negative fan, so of course, I jumped at the chance. We just clicked and became friends. Great guy, awesome player! Check out our recent interview below.

Drummer Johnny Kelly from Quiet Riot

 

Meltdown started on the mighty WRIF on the evening of Halloween, 1995. Technically, his first on-air shift was the morning of November 1st. Moving to the Motor City from Buffalo, N.Y., he has built a career and family. Over his almost three-decade stint at RIFF, he's had the privilege to work with some of the biggest personalities in Detroit radio history. He boasts of being just the second-afternoon drive jock in the station's illustrious 53-year history. Along with his love for rock music and attending concerts, he's also an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast and hockey player. He plays year-round and manages to squeeze in a few charity games throughout the year. Meltdown writes about the Detroit Red Wings, rock music, and Detroit concert venues.
