Watch Foundation 14 Surprise Veteran With A Motorcycle (video)
On Saturday, Foundation 14 presented a motorcycle to the 25th recipient since October 2016. The even took place at Artesian Wells in Cement City, Michigan. This time, the recipient was Kevin Holmes, who joined the US Army in 1996 with multiple deployments throughout his career, including his time with the Army National Guard. Kevin was visibly moved to accept the motorcycle. The person receiving the bike never knows, so it’s a total surprise. Someone tipped me off to the fact that Kevin was getting the bike, so it was fun to kind of keep an eye on him. He was speechless saying that he only thought he was there to help sell t-shirts.
Also honored on Saturday was Ken McNally, US Army, who served 16 years before being medically retired. Ken is now a lieutenant with his local fire department. Both men, part of the ‘Hooligans’, are very respected by those they served with and leaders to those who know them.
As a special guest speaker, Loni Hill shared her story of losing her husband Tom just over a year ago. Tom was in the same Company (Hooligans) with both Kevin and Ken. Having endured losses during deployment this is a tight band of brothers. However, the continued losses after returning home bring this group back together more often than should ever happen.
I was proud to be included in this very special ceremony. A huge THANK YOU to everyone at Foundation 14, but particularly Maria Caruso. She won’t toot her own horn, so I will. She does such a great job with this organization. She’s very hands-on and caring in every aspect of Foundation 14. I’m so impressed of the work she does and proud to call her a friend.
