Join The Celebration: Kick Off Pride Month At Ferndale Pride
Many people are eager to kick off Pride Month this year bringing together diverse individuals to celebrate love, acceptance, and equality. The special time dedicated to honoring and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community is being kicked off with several celebrations throughout Metro Detroit. One of those events coming up is Ferndale Pride. Founded in 2011, the event draws in thousands of members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Join the annual family-friendly event from 12:30 pm to 10 pm on June 3.
What’s New To The Event This Year?
The Baby Feeding Area is an exciting addition to this year’s festivities, presented by Skilled Lactation and Nature’s Playhouse. This dedicated space will offer invaluable support from lactation experts for breastfeeding and chest-feeding parents. For those in need of pumping, electrical outlets will be available.
Another delightful new feature is “Reading with Royalty.” Four drag queens and kings from the local community will be in the children’s area with their storytelling skills. Starting at 2 pm and continuing hourly until 5 pm Plus, the royalty will be signing free bookmarks and encouraging youngsters to embrace the magic of books.
What’s Happening This Year?
Mark McMillan from McMillan Behavioral Health and Addiction Services will be there. They will team up with The Phoenix to offer alcohol-free activities, harm-reduction resources, and valuable information about recovery.
If you’re seeking a peaceful retreat during the event, attendees can visit the Sensory Zone, presented by Credit Union One in collaboration with Ferndale Accessibility and Inclusion Advisory Commission. This tranquil space provides a haven for those in need of a sensory break. It will be complete with relaxation opportunities and access to fidget items and earplugs.
Attendees can also check out the free gender-affirming clothing closet hosted by Affirmations and Stand with Trans. As well as the STI and HIV testing services provided by Unified Health and Matrix Human Services MAC Health. It’s all part of the inclusive and supportive atmosphere at the event.

For Ferndale Pride’s main event, the street fair Saturday, June 3, more than 200 vendors will line the streets. Selling food, beverages, and goods, and providing information. Several of the downtown restaurants and merchants will provide promotions and specials too. Two outdoor stages will be turning out metro Detroit musical acts.
