Michigan is Getting Snow in May – Here’s Where

It's spring in Michigan, and while we had a few 80-degree days, it's back to being colder than normal. In fact, much of lower Michigan is expected to actually get snow - yes, snow - this week.

I am someone who hates the winters in Michigan, even though I love this state. This winter was incredible mild for Michigan, which I loved. We had so many days that were in the 40s throughout January and February that it really felt like we didn't get a winter. But, right now, temperatures are below normal for the state.

A cutoff low-pressure system is projected to bring very cold air (for May, at least) to lower Michigan, along with some wetness, on Monday (May 1) and Tuesday (May 2). We might even get an inch of snow in some areas, but that won't last, thankfully. That said, temperatures will be colder than normal for May 1 and 2. Michigan's highs are usually in the low-60s at this time, but we're projected to have highs in the low-40s, which is a whopping 20-degrees colder than normal.

According to Weather.com, cities that are projected to see some light snow on Monday and Tuesday include Grand Rapids, Lansing, Flint and areas north of these cities, too. It appears Detroit won't see this snowfall, as Weather.com predicts rain for the Motor City. But, even just a few degree difference in temperature could change this and bring snow to the D. If you think lower Michigan has it bad, Marquette is still getting tons of snow, as in more than a foot. The National Weather Service in Marquette tweeted, "Rounds of rain and wet snow will continue into early this week. Expect increasing chances for significant wet snowfall over the west later today and tonight for west and north central UP. Very hazardous travel and power outages are possible late Sun. night into Tue."
