Meltdown on WRIF

Weekdays 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

I had the chance to talk with Joe Perry yesterday on my Talkin’ Rock with Meltdown podcast. His new solo album drops on May 26th. Plus, he’s be in Pontiac April 22nd at the Crofoot. You can hear the entire interview below.

Will there be a new Aerosmith album? I asked that question to the guitar legend and Rock N’ Roll Hall of Famer. “Ya know, I’m not sure. Steven (Tyler) and I have been, ya know, talking about it and listening to the catalog and listening to different versions of the different songs.” He compared it to Jimmy Page going through the Led Zeppelin catalog and releasing unheard material from the band. He says they’ve been focusing on that, but every once in a while he said they look at each other and say “Hey, what do you think about getting in the studio again?” He referenced a lot going on with the band, but did wrap up the thought by saying “I don’t know..we’ll see. I won’t say it will never happen, but right now I kinda take things day to day, and right now I’m just trying to get through this one. So, we’ll see”

As far as other stuff with the band, he told me about Steven and Joey Kramer, who lost his wife last year. “Steven is doing great. He’s doing a 100% better. He had a lot of physical stuff going on” that forced him to take some time off. As far as Joey is concerned, he said that playing the drums for 50 years has taken a toll on him. “It’s a really physical gig. It’s like an athletic event. It was getting to the point where it was really hard for him to play the way he wanted to play.” He said his drum tech will take his place on any future gigs. “He’s still part of the band, but he’s just going to have to take a break.”
