The Detroit Lions Are Trying to Sign a 6-Time Pro Bowler – But Is It a Good Move?
The Detroit Lions need some help on their defense. That’s no secret. Now, head coach Dan Campbell is talking about what he’s trying to do to solidify the team’s defense class.
In a press conference with the media this week, Campbell said that he’s trying to get veteran defensive lineman Calais Campbell on the team. Campbell is currently a free agent.
“We turn the tape on, and I’ll tell you what, you talk about a lot of respect for a big man,” said Dan of Calais, (via The Detroit News’ Justin Rogers). “Oh, my gosh. I just keep watching it and I’m like, ‘There’s no way he can feel good, that body can not feel good.’ He’s just a force to be reckoned with. You put him in a closed end, you’re not running over there. He can rush as a 3-technique, still, on third down. Man, he’s got length, he’s got size, he’s still quick. We’ll see. We’re not the only one who is on him.”
Do you think this is a good move? I’m on the fence about it. There’s no denying that Calais is a six-time Pro Bowler and fantastic player. But, he turns 37 later this year, and I’m not sure if he’s a long-term solution for the team’s defense.
