Taproot’s Stephen Richards Talks About His Decades Old Tiff With Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst
On a recent interview I had with Stephen Richards from Taproot, it came up that they’re playing the Blue Ridge Mountain Fest and that Limp Bizkit was one of the many bands also playing. Of course I had to ask him if he’s buried the hatchet with Bizkit front man, Fred Durst. He told me that he’d love to go onstage and sing a song with Fred and the band. “I’m pretty sure he’s buried the hatchet and I never had a hatchet with the guy, so I think it would be like, huge!” He went on ” I think there would be a lot of buzz, like, holy cow, you know, finally 20 whatever years later, that would be sweet.”
This all stems from a disagreement Fred and Taproot had over twenty years ago as Durst was trying to sign the band. As it turned out, he only wanted to give them a demo deal. The band went elsewhere, and the rest is history. Here’s the voicemail Durst left for the band. Caution, it’s NSFW.
Where’s the relationship, or lack thereof, stand now? “We played Rock on the Range, oh, a long time ago. Maybe 2010, something like that. We kind of made eye contact, but it was, you know, nothing bad. He didn’t run over and hit me or anything, or didn’t invite me over to the bus or anything, but I’m pretty sure it’s cool now.”
The new album drops at the end of September, as the band is firing things back up! Check out the interview with Steve here.
