Another Michigan Ice Storm is Coming – Here’s When and Where

Michigan is used to getting traditional snow storms, but when those snow storm because ice storms, things get especially hazardous. Last week, a major ice storm caused the power to go out in more than 700,000 homes across Michigan.

Now, another ice storm is making its way to Michigan, and it's possible this one could cause power outages, too. It's not great news, but let's brace for it. Here's when and where to expect the ice.

According to the National Weather Service forecast, the new storm will likely take place on Monday (Feb. 27) and be north of last week's ice storm. More than a third of an inch of ice is predicted to land across parts of the state; mainly from Ludington going toward Cadillac and Big Rapids, as well as east to Midland.

That doesn't mean other areas of Michigan are out of trouble. Areas south of the storm area are expected to get some ice, but lesser amounts, such as in Lansing, Grand Rapids and Jackson. Of course, if the storm shifts notably south, it will hit the same areas that were impacted last week, and many of those areas are still without power.

The good news is that according to the National Weather Service, this storm isn't expected to be as severe as last week's storm. Likewise, accumulations are expected to be lower, so there shouldn't be as many homes losing power. If you're far south in Michigan, this new storm may also seem more like a rainstorm. For areas north of the projected ice storm area, expect snow, with anywhere from three to six inches of the white stuff. Of course, projections change, so be prepared for anything on Monday, no matter where you live in lower Michigan. I'm hoping for surprisingly warm temperatures to melt all the ice.
