New Michigan Winter Storm Predictions for This Week
Winter is here, finally. I didn’t mind the mild weather over the past month. In fact, I loved it. But, Michigan is finally getting a burst of winter weather, and that means snow, cold and ice.
The National Weather Service and at Weather.com have changed the totals expected to get from Wednesday’s (Jan. 25) big storm. Totals have gone up a bit in Southeast Michigan and down a bit in the northern parts of the state. This storm is certainly on track to dump the most snow in the southern areas of Michigan, including into Ohio and southern states.
According to the NWS, Lansing is expected to get around 3 to 4 inches of snowfall with totals getting closer to 4 to 6 inches around and southeast of Jackson area. For Detroit, the snow forecast is larger, with 4 to 7 inches projected. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Wayne, Lenawee, and Monroe counties until 10 P.M. Wednesday. Other area counties have a Winter Weather Advisory which could turn into a warning at any point. Snow is expected to start earlier Wednesday and get heavy in the afternoon. Travel will be difficult into Thursday morning. More snow is possible south of M-59. A Winter Storm Watch has already been issued for much of lower Michigan, and more watches and warnings are expected to be issued as the storm gets closer.
