Looking Back on the Detroit Lions’ Spectacular Season – Anne Erickson
What a Detroit Lions season. I’m so proud of our guys. This is the stuff of which dreams and hopes and inspiration are made.
The Lions have been a running joke in the NFL ever since I was a kid. But, nobody is laughing at us now. Heading into the Green Bay game, our final regular season game, I was watching the Sunday Night Football pre-show, and every single commentator picked Green Bay to win. They kept saying that this was a different Green Bay team than the one the Lions beat early in the season. I was like, um, not really.
It’s incredible and inspiring to see the Lions triumph over Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay. I have to give Rodgers credit, too, because before the game, doing the press rounds, he was saying that this is not the same old Lions. He also seemed to have good sportsmanship after the game, hugging players and exchanging loving words with Jamaal Williams.
But, the story of this season is not just about this final game and win. It’s about the road to redemption. The Lions have been resurrected, in a way, and now, we’re one of the most feared teams going into the next season.
Jared Goff is our guy. I’m convinced. I know a lot of people were hating on him last season and going into this season. I had my doubts, too. But, he has proven me wrong, I’m convinced that he is the right quarterback to lead the Lions to the playoffs next year.
Goff makes good decisions on the field. He has great chemistry with the offense. Best of all, he’s humble. A lot of quarterbacks just aren’t that. And that means a lot to me. I’m very excited for the future of the Lions.
Thank you for rocking with me this season on “The Squad with Anne Erickson!” A massive thank you the listeners, plus the great guests from Detroit and national media who have been on the show. It’s not over, either! While this is the final regular season episode, I’ll post some one-off episodes during the draft and other special events. Then, The Squad will be back next season for what will hopefully be a historic one for the Lions!
