Dodge Muscle Car Enthusiast Kenny Wayne Shepherd Talks About Electric Vehicles – Meltdown
Kenny Wayne Shepherd was a recent guest on my Talkin’ Rock podcast. Like every time I talk with Kenny, we talk about music, but there has to be some car talk too. Since the last time I had him on, Dodge unveiled their electric Dodge Charger over the summer. I’m not a fan. I guess my sticking point is using the Charger name/brand. If you want to make an electric vehicle, go for it, just call it something else. That’s just my feelings on it being an old-school Charger guy.
Kenny told me that the company is kinda being forced into this transition. “Well, I would say at the end of the day, you know, if you listen to the message, it’s like, they’re not saying that they really want to have to do this, but they’re being kind of forced into it. You know, the government, the scope of the industry is changing and the government requirements and things like that are forcing everybody’s hand into going electric. So, I mean, if the company is to survive, they’re gonna have to comply. But I think they’re gonna continue to offer, you know, gas engines for the foreseeable future.” I sure hope so.
I love the body style of the new EV and even asked for a two door Charger years ago. Kenny commented on the look of the new cars. “But I will say this, I really like the look of the car. I like the design of the car. I’m a Dodge guy through and through. I’m a Mopar guy. I’ll probably own one, because I just love the brand that much and I love the look of the car that much. And I, I owned a Tesla briefly for a couple of years, and there’s something to be said for the performance that you can get out of a electric vehicle.
It’s instant power, instant torque. And if I know the guys at Dodge, they’re gonna make those things perform probably better than just about anything else on the street. It’s gonna be a hell of a lot of fun to drive and they’re gonna do it right. So, you know, I just think the challenge for everybody is, is the lifestyle.”
Not much I don’t agree with there. What are your thoughts?
