Bad Decisions In Rock & Roll – Meltdown
“Rolling Stone” put together a list of the 50 worst decisions in music history. Here are the worst Top 10…..
1. The Rolling Stones hire the motorcycle club Hells Angels to do security at their 1969 concert at Altamont Speedway. It resulted in the death of a fan who was stabbed by a member.
2. Jerry Lee Lewis marries his 13-year-old cousin in 1958.
3. Decca Records passes on signing The Beatles in 1962.
4. Eric Clapton goes all-in on Covid vaccine conspiracies in 2020.
5. Woodstock organizers celebrate the festival’s 30th anniversary with the horrific riot that was Woodstock 1999.
6. Kanye West interrupts Taylor Swift at the “VMAs” in 2009.
7. Blood, Sweat & Tears go on a tour sponsored by the U.S. government during the Vietnam War.
8. Ja Rule invests in the Fyre Festival. That was a wild, or should I say ‘wylde’ documentary.
9. U2 basically forces Apple users to receive their “Songs of Innocence” album for free. Awful album/idea.
10. Billy Squier kills his career with the cheesy music video for “Rock Me Tonite”. You know, the one where he’s dancing around in a pastel bedroom in a pink tank top.
Here’s what I’ll add….
Metallica’s LuLu or St. Anger albums. St. Anger sounds like a masterpiece next to LuLu. This took me about :03 to come up with.
John Corabi joining Motley Crue. The record they put out was an awesome album, just not a great Crue record.
Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Randy Rhoads getting in that plane. This was obviously not his fault, but could you imagine what he would’ve done with a full career?
I emailed some of my coworkers and here’s what they had to say about bad Rock decisions.
Screamin’ Scott – Lars’ Snare drum on Metallica’s St. Anger. It was the most annoying sound that ruined the whole album.
Anne Erickson – Ooooh this is hard. I would say Guns N’ Roses breaking up. I know that there were tensions in the band and it was craziness in general, but it’s crazy that fans had to wait decades to see Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan back together for the Not In This Lifetime tour. 🙂 Just think of all the great music we could have had in the interim!
