My Favorite Canadian Bands, Eh! – Meltdown
Since we just passed the Canadian Thanksgiving, and hockey season is right around the corner, I thought I’d share my favorite Canadian bands with you guys.
RUSH – I mean, need I say more?!? Alex, Geddy and Neil, that’s all you have to say. I’ll admit that after getting back into vinyl about 6 years ago, I got back into RUSH big time. Those older albums were so well crafted and are hard to top.
Nickleback. – I know, I’ll get some pushback for this, but hear me out. Hit songs. Great live show. Awesome people. Plus, Dimebag and Vinnie Paul loved these guys….that’s enough for me.
Triumph – Easy…another three piece, legendary band. I think I’ve interviewed every member since the pandemic hit, with Mike Levine talking to me twice. Great band, great songs, quality people.
The Tragically Hip – Legends in Canada, barely known in the states. When they decided to do one more tour after singer Gord Downie was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, the whole country came out in force. This wasn’t some BS “last tour” like we see from so many bands nowadays. This was the true to life last. Their final show in their hometown of Kingston, Ontario, was broadcast across the entire country. I can’t tell you the amount of artists I’ve talked to who were either there, or watched live on TV. Gord died on October 17, 2017, at the age of 53 in Toronto, shortly after the last show.
The Tea Party. Here’s a band that should be bigger south of the border, but aren’t for whatever reason. From just across the river, The Tea Party have been around for decades. Check out one of their songs here…..
I also love, Theory of a Deadman, Coney Hatch, Kim Mitchell and a bunch of others.
