EMU Basketball Star Emoni Bates Arraigned for Gun Charges
Eastern Michigan University basketball star Emoni Bates was arraigned on gun charges Monday (Sept. 19) After the arraignment, he was suspended from “practice and playing privileges,” according to a release.
A statement from Eastern states, “We are aware of a situation involving men’s basketball student-athlete Emoni Bates. Eastern Michigan University takes all allegations of this nature very seriously. Per department policy, he has been suspended automatically from practice and playing privileges until the legal process is resolved. Because this is an on-going legal matter, the University will have no further comment at this time.”
According to the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, deputies pulled Bates over after he didn’t stop at an intersection over the weekend. Then, they found a firearm and took Bates into custody.
Bates’ probable cause hearing is scheduled for October 6 at 9 a.m.
