Chris Pine and Harry Styles attends the Campari Passion For Film 2022 Award during the 79th Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2022 in Venice, Italy.

Harry Styles is poking fun at the moment that had Twitter in shock at the Don’t Worry Darling Venice premiere. It appeared as though the “As It Was” singer spat on co-star Chris Pine while taking his seat next to him. As he prepares to sit, Styles, 28, leans forward toward Pine, who looks down at his lap in surprise.

Following the premiere, a representative for Pine firmly denied that the incident happened. “This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation,” Pine’s rep said in a statement to Variety. “Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”

Styles also addressed the spit-take during his New York City concert Wednesday (September 7). “It’s wonderful, wonderful, wonderful to be back in New York,” Harry said in a video shared on Twitter. “I just popped very quickly to Venice to spit on Chris Pine.” He added while laughing, “But fret not, we’re back.”

The moment generated reactions from concertgoers and Twitter users. One user wrote, “A FULL CIRCLE MOMENT FOR #SpitGate LOL.” Another added, “The fact that some people think he’s being serious and they probably didn’t see that Chris already said he didn’t spit on him is honestly hilarious.” One person wrote, “The only way to address #SpitGate bravo Harry.” While another commented, “he has never addressed a rumour in his life and THIS is the one he speaks to directly i’m dying.” One user said, “he’s giggling so much i know every single post on monday night had him in tears laughing.”
