Jerry Liebman, aka Specs Howard, was laid to rest this past Monday, leaving behind a legacy that will continue for ages. Many of the WRIF staff passed through those hallowed halls of Specs Howard School of Broadcast and Media Arts. I know because I was one of those students.

Fresh out of my high school radio station in Warren, back in 1982, I thought I was ready but found that I needed that little extra to get my foot in the door. I enrolled right away into the school, and my broadcast career was underway after I graduated.

Specs was a kind gentleman that I loved talking to for hours upon end about the good old days of radio and what he went through. Even years after I had graduated, I would get follow-up phone calls from Jerry asking how I was and if I would stop by the school. His words of encouragement stuck with me all these 35-plus years in broadcasting. I would like to take a moment to thank him for being such a wonderful mentor. He will truly be missed. I always joked with him and called him Mr. Radio. I personally can't thank him enough for all the wonderful years I've enjoyed in radio and continue to enjoy to this day.

Born in Mt Clemens, Screamin’ Scott has been a part of the Detroit airwaves for 30-plus years. With 40 years of experience in radio. When he’s not out on the streets for WCSX, you can find him devoting time to local charities with his, “Screamin Angels”; and for 16 years with Rock 4 Tots charity. And last 10 years with his local band, "Chit!." Screamin Scott likes to write about nostalgic Detroit area memories, classic rock, and local metro Detroit topics.
