Farwell to My Dream Cars: Charger, Challenger and Grand Prix – Anne Erickson
Dodge is discontinuing their Charger and Challenger models, and that has me wondering, why are all of my dream cars getting the boot?
My true dream car was actually the first car I ever bought, which was the Pontiac Grand Prix. I loved that thing, and it saved my life a few times. Not going to lie- I cried like a baby when I had to say goodbye to it. It had more than 225,000 miles on it and was finally unfixable, so it was time. What made me even more sad was the fact Pontiac is no longer a brand, because I would have purchased another Grand Prix in a heartbeat. I loved the sporty look and V6 engine. Plus, it was so darn comfy. And what great pickup.
So, with the Grand Prix no longer available, my “dream car” became the Dodge Charger. There’s something about four-door sports cars that gets me every time. I love the look, the comfort and lower insurance costs. When it came to purchasing a new car, I actually went for a Chevy Malibu, which I love. My grandfather was a lifelong GM employee and supported his family of five with that job, so I like the GM brand. That said, the Charger was still on my list of “dream cars” if I got lucky in the future.
So, now what? Dodge has announced it is ending their Charger and Challenger models with the 2023 model year. Dodge is already announcing electric versions of the cars, too. Dodge says the current production of the two muscle cars will end at the Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada, in December of 2023.
Ordering and pricing information for the 2023 Dodge Charger and Challenger will be revealed closer to the on-sale date, which will likely be in October. What’s your dream car, and is it still available? Reach out on social media and let me know!
